I Wear Basic Outfits 7 Days a Week—Here Are the 6 Simple Trends I'm Buying Now
While I’m always down to test out jazzy, bold looks from time to time (like an eclectic coat or a flashy pair of shoes), I tend to stick to more basic outfits in my day-to-day. Typically, my go-to formula consists of black jeans, a neutral tee or crew-neck sweater, and a standard moto jacket. I honestly probably wear some variation of these simple items seven days per week. While I’ll never give up these staples (they’re comfortable and effortlessly cool), I’m interested in incorporating a few new simple pieces into my pared-down wardrobe that feel fresh and could seamlessly fit within the other basics I wear on repeat.
Fortunately, many of the coolest style setters are embracing the idea of more "wearable” dressing these days, meaning that there’s a range of solid outfit inspiration out there featuring on-trend, more fashion-forward basics. I’m talking those amped-up basic pieces that are slightly more statement-making than the typical simple items I wear.
To highlight further, I rounded up a bit of visual and shopping inspo below featuring the simple yet impactful trends I’m interested in buying this year to upgrade my basics game. Keep scrolling for more. Who knows? You just might uncover a few new simple go-tos as well.
I recently covered button-front skinny jeans as one of the key denim looks for 2020. So as a skinny-jean wearer myself, I’m definitely ready to try said silhouette as an upgraded take on the standard skinnies I’ve been wearing for years.
The slouchy-blazer trend is certainly not a new look (it reigned supreme in 2019). I have one looser black blazer in my wardrobe, but I want to add another style into the mix for when I want an easy piece that brings instant sophistication.
Like just about every other fashion person, I’ve been living in cardigans recently. While I have a few go-tos, I’m in the market for a chunky style in a bulkier shape to keep cool and comfortable all season long.
It’s no secret that the fashion crowd’s adoration for loafers continues to grow. While the more elevated styles with block heels will be one of the most popular silhouettes this year, I’m particularly into the more toned town yet timeless picks that have just a slightly chunky sole to keep them modern and fresh.
Like I mentioned above, I basically live in classic black moto jackets. For 2020, I want to invest in a forward cut that’s just a bit looser than the more fitted picks I tend to wear. I think the oversized vibe will bring that fashionable, low-key feel to my basic looks.
Re-worked trench coats will hit the scene hard this year, and I’m quite excited to try one of the classic silhouettes myself. While the statement-making patent and colorful iterations are of interest, I’ll probably stick to a khaki style that I’ll wear for years.
