14 Major Trends, 7 Major Models—Proof That Spring 2020 Is Bound to Be Big

It might seem borderline criminal to tease you with spring and summer when it is currently below freezing in some cities, but what can I say? It's a harsh world. At this point, we've had some time to really digest all that went down during Fashion Month, including trends, major celebrity appearances, and, of course, iconic model moments. Instead of throwing all the biggest S/S 20 trends at you at once, I thought it might be best to ease into the coming season by admiring which of the most popular trends were spotted on the most popular models.

Including everyone from Kaia Gerber to the Hadid sisters, it was interesting to see just how many designers put the industry's most well-recognized faces in the biggest styles of the season. Ahead, see the official breakdown of who wore what on the S/S 20 runways, and shop the trends along the way.

The Three-Piece Suit

Suiting took on many new forms on the spring runways, but the three-piece was the freshest of them all. We are looking forward to well-suited ensembles—including vests, shorts, skirts, and the like—in the coming season.

The '90s Redux

Showing up as less of a trend and more of an overall way of dressing, the return of iconic silhouettes from the beloved era proved to be some of the strongest looks from city to city.

Forever in Leather

Leather, like suiting, has proven to be less of a trend and more of a wardrobe staple from season to season. This spring, we're taking note of fresh-colored leather pieces versus the go-to black. Sometimes a little color change is all the update you need.

Beyond the Bedroom

Arguably the biggest theme throughout the S/S 20 collections was boudoir dressing, outside of the bedroom, of course. Featuring corsetry, bustiers, slips, and even garters, this look is a perfect example of how to take this trend to the streets—if you dare.

The Decade Diary

While the '90s certainly inspired a handful of the biggest trends of the season, the '70s certainly held their own via bold suede separates, bohemian prints, and all the accessories to match.

The Outdoorsy Type

Gigi Hadid's utilitarian-inspired jumpsuit is a perfect blend of the outdoorsy vibe we saw this season. From tropical prints (more to come there) to safari-inspired looks, this trend might be one of the most exciting and approachable of them all.

Granny Goggles

As previously mentioned, the '70s were a major theme on the S/S 20 runways, but it was the massively oversize granny-inspired sunglasses that really stole the show. Consider this your final farewell to the micro sunglasses trend (finally).

Great Lengths

According to the runways (and street style, for that matter), 2020 is shaping up to be the year of shorts, specifically long ones. We particularly love this trend because it is well-suited (pun intended) for the office and beyond.

Scarfing Around

Scarf prints were a major trend for F/W 19, but for spring, designers got a bit more literal with pieces that took the scarf and really put it center stage.
