9 Things I Don't Plan on Wearing This Spring and What I'm Putting on Instead

With spring inching closer and closer by the day, it's only logical that we begin to mentally and physically prepare for a little shift of the old wardrobe. For me, that entails very joyously putting my winter clothes and accessories deep, deep into storage, as well as excitedly bringing my spring pieces out of hiding to be displayed front and center in my closet. But while it's easy to know which pieces to put away, sometimes it takes a little thinking and planning to decide which I will bring back out for the current season.

This spring, there are a handful of trends and basics from years past that I cannot wait to get back into. However, there are equally as many that I'm thinking to skip this time around. Of course, none of these are "out" or off-limits, but for me, they're simply lower priority or perhaps not sparking as much joy as others. To see which made my list (and in which category), just keep scrolling, and while you’re at it, take in some outfit inspo and shopping reccommendations along the way.

Skipping: Statement Jewelry

Wearing: Interesting Belts

As someone who keeps their actual clothing pretty simple, I'm always looking for ways to spice up my outfits, and for me this season, cool belts are the most forward-feeling way to do so.

Skipping: Oversize Blazers

Wearing: Fitted Jackets

After years and years of favoring my oversize blazers over anything else, the internet has me obsessed with fitted jackets again, and I'm all in on the look.

Skipping: Cargo Pants

Wearing: Straight-Leg Jeans

The cargo-pant trend was a good one, and while I still love them on other people, I personally have been more inclined to return to my best basics, starting with simple, straight-leg jeans.

Skipping: Full Maxi Skirts

Wearing: Pleated Miniskirts

In the battle of the many, many trending skirts, the pleated mini has won for me by a landslide, and I have been adding them to my wish lists and carts left and right lately.

Skipping: Classic Pumps

Wearing: Slingbacks

No hate to the classic pump—it's clearly not going anywhere—but I just love this season's slingbacks so much that if I'm putting heels on, it will absolutely be one of them.

Skipping: Pastels

Wearing: Pops of Red

I already wear color sparingly (to say the least), so if I'm going to add a hue other than black, white, or neutral to my look, I have to be really excited about it. I know pastels and spring go hand in hand, but at the moment, red is the only shade really doing that for me.

Skipping: Tiny Bags

Wearing: Chic and Practical Totes

I love a mini bag as much as the next fashion girl and will continue to use them in the evening. However, when it comes to dressing for the day, this season's crop of totes is not only stunning but so much more practical.

Skipping: Peplum Tops

Wearing: Vests

For a while, I thought peplum tops might be poised for a major resurgence, but it seems they've been no match for our beloved vests. I look forward to wearing mine (without having to layer something under) in the coming months!

Skipping: Platform Loafers

Wearing: Mary Janes

If I'm not in boots or sneakers, there's only one flat shoe I'm interested in, and that continues to be the Mary Jane. Sorry to all the other contenders, but it is still winning by a landslide.

Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here atBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing , and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2024, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch Summer House.
