As someone who has relocated plenty of times—to L.A., Paris, NYC, and back to L.A.—I can speak to the importance of updating your style after a move. Really, there’s no better time to reevaluate which items you need to move you into the next phase of your life.

Each time I’ve crossed the country or landed on a new continent, I’ve swiftly rid my closet of worn-out items and donated pieces that have been sitting at the back of my closet. Once I’ve settled in, I’ve also made sure to invest in new items that fit my new lifestyle and mark the important time in my life. In Paris, I bought an investment bag at Chanel that I still wear today. In NYC, I bought a practical puffer to adjust to my new climate, and now that I’m back in L.A., I have a set of matching luggage to accommodate my increased traveling now that I’m settled here.

Through each of my moves, I’ve made small tweaks to my life and learned some important lessons about how to move my style forward. Ahead, shop the simple ways to update your style after a move.
