Astronomy and astrology enthusiasts alike are gearing up for a major celestial event tonight, as a super blood wolf moon lights up the sky around 9:30 p.m. Witchy connotations aside, the name actually denotes a lunar eclipse that coincides with the first full moon of the year, coloring it red. Since it's a supermoon—which means that the moon is orbiting particularly close to Earth—we'll get a particularly high-def display. For all of these events to align on a single night is a pretty rare event—one that we won't see for another 18 years.

Aside from the sheer wow factor (especially if your local weather forecast calls for clear skies), astrologists (and psychologists) view this event as the perfect opportunity to check in with yourself and reassess the goals you set for yourself at the start of 2019.

"Eclipses are incredible for removing emotional clutter from our lives," says astrologist Rose Theodora. "Use this as an opportunity to let go of the areas in your life which are no longer working." Since New Year's tends to push us into a highly transitional mindset, tonight's eclipse might feel like a continuation of that mindset and an invitation to lean into the intentions that are really working for you thus far (even if we're only three weeks into 2019).

But it might also mean reassessing now that the dust has settled a bit and you're back in your normal, post-holiday routine. The reality is that while some goals might seem like a fit in theory—especially when we're caught up in the fervor of that "new year, new me" mentality—when we put them into practice, they don't serve us the way we thought they might. Why try to jam that odd-shaped puzzle piece into the jigsaw of your life when you can swap it out for something that might be a better fit? The window for self-improvement doesn't close on January 2.

That invitation to look inward still stands whether you subscribe to astrological thinking or just want to take in the killer view tonight.

Next up: Here's how to deal with change when it feels really scary.
