These 18 Supplements Will Make Your Hair Thicken Crazy Fast
We all want shiny, voluminous locks. But the reality is a lot of us are dealing with limp strands. I, for one, stress about the state of my hair in regard to thinning on a daily basis (maybe more than I should, to be honest). Healthy hair doesn't come naturally for some people. Some have health problems that mess with hair growth, and others can thank genetics.
In some cases, you can make your locks healthier by eating better, but sometimes, you need some extra help. And no, I'm not talking about extensions. (Although, I wouldn't say no to those either.) I'm talking about supplements that are supposed to help with hair growth and health. I've rounded up some editors' picks and top-reviewed ones below, but note that it's worth chatting with your doctor before starting a new supplement. You never know what kind of side effects there might be.
These heart-shaped gummies are a favorite of manyBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing and THE/THIRTY editors. Personally, these are my go-to for keeping my own hair healthy and shiny. They contain biotin, zinc, B12, PABA, folic acid, and Fo-Ti—nutrients and ingredients that are all supposed to boost hair growth and health. Added bonus: They taste pretty good, too.
Our editors are big fans of Moon Juice's products, including the brand's Brain Dust for productivity, and SuperHair doesn't disappoint, either. The supplements contain biotin, kelp, saw palmetto, and horsetail. Plus, they're non-GMO and vegan. The recommended dose is four capsules a day.
Briogeo's vegan-friendly hair supplement is highly rated on Sephora. It contains an algae-derived omega-3 complex, ahiflower, and biotin. One reviewer wrote, "Within the first week, the texture of my hair softened and it looked healthier. Throughout the month my amount of hair fall decreased. Feeling more confident, I've even started to wear my hair down again, rather than forcing it into my usual top knot. I am extremely excited to see what happens with prolonged usage."
I love using Ouai's hair products. The Texturizing Hair Spray is perfect for my extremely low-maintenance (aka lazy) daily hair routine, so I was intrigued when I found out the brand also makes supplements. These contain pea-shoot extract, biotin, and a multivitamin complex to strengthen the hair, reduce shedding, and fortify the scalp.
If you don't want to take gummies, Hum also makes supplement softgels that contain antioxidants, vitamin E, and black currant seed oil and are supposed to promote healthy hair and glowing skin. The antioxidants in the supplements are also said to moisturize your skin and hair follicles.
Another gummy option, this one contains biotin, vitamin C, and keratin to support healthy hair, skin, and nails, and it's grapefruit flavored. One reviewer said, "The flavor is awesome and delightful saw some improvement in my hair. It's much softer, and my skin is looking better. I have been having some issues with my skin, and I have been taking them for a month now, and I am starting to see some improvements. I will be buying again."
In a clinical study, 80% of women who used this supplement saw an increase in hair growth and thickness. Nutrafol supplements contain ashwagandha, curcumin, saw palmetto, marine collagen, and biotin. Like a lot of supplements, hair growth doesn't happen overnight, and the brand says most people will start to see benefits in three to six months.
Biotin can aid in hair growth; that's why it's found in so many of these supplements. This particular kind is infused with coconut oil and is non-GMO verified. With over 11,000 reviews and a 4.5-star rating, it's one of the most popular biotin supplements on Amazon. One reviewer wrote, "Between using coconut oil directly on my hair and taking another supplement to help hair growth, there is no comparison on how much better this biotin softgel is! I started to see a difference in as little as two weeks! My hair was no longer falling out as much in the shower and I began to see baby hairs growing in where my hair was thinning."
Labeled as an Amazon's Choice product, this highly rated supplement contains biotin, essential B vitamins, keratin, collagen, and zinc. Plus, it's suitable for all hair types. It's recommended to take two capsules daily.
This formula includes biotin, vitamin B-12, iron, L-lysin, vitamin C, and vitamin D—all supposed to aid in hair growth and health. The manufacturer says you will start to see results in 12 weeks. The recommended dosage is two tablets daily, one with breakfast and one with lunch.
You can have your gummies and biotin, too, thanks to these supplements. They have a natural blueberry flavor and do not contain high-fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, gluten, dairy, or synthetic dyes.
This Viviscal product has been one of the more popular hair-growth supplements for years, with many people reporting major improvements to their locks. Key ingredients include AminoMar, horsetail extract, biotin, vitamin C, and iron. One reviewer wrote, "I've been using Viviscal on and off for years. It's the only hair-growth supplement that I feel like actually works, and I've tried a lot! My favorite thing about it, though, is that it's packed with so many other vitamins that are good for you, too."
These are a blend of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that support hair growth and health. The Keraviatin10 promotes scalp health, which, in turn, can help prevent hair loss.
This formula helps support not only healthy hair growth but also skin and nails. It includes biotin, vitamin C (for healthy collagen production), and vitamin E (for skin health). One reviewer said, "No matter how often I washed my hair (every week or two a month—I'm African American) I would have huge hair balls come out with the detangling process. After just three weeks of consistent everyday use my shedding has drastically decreased. I know that the vitamins are restoring my hair strength and elasticity."
Another highly rated Amazon's Choice product, these capsules have over 6000 reviews and 4.5 stars. They contain hair-supporting ingredients like vitamin C, vitamin E, niacin, vitamin B-6, and zinc. They're also vegan, sugar-free, soy-free, and gluten-free.
Here's another highly rated biotin option. This one has 10,000 micrograms of biotin per serving and is free of artificial flavors and sweeteners, gluten, and lactose.
These softgels are formulated with biotin to support healthy hair, keratin to nourish, and silicon for collagen and keratin production.
The Nue Co.'s supplement is formulated to improve nutrition deficiencies, hormone fluctuations, and stress—all of which disrupt hair health.
