Other Stories, Mango and Topshop Have Saved Their Best Coats for Last

On Saturday, I made my weekly pilgrimage to the real-life shops to carry out some field research. Essentially, it’s my job to bring you all the fashion goings-on as they happen, and I find the most effective way of uncovering new trends is to sharpen my elbows and get out there to see firsthand what’s causing a frenzy. And this weekend, it was all about coats.

When scanning the queues at the tills, it looked as though there was barely an arm that didn’t have a piece of new-season outerwear draped over it, and I have a couple of theories as to why that is: One is that it was widely reported we’d get snow this week, which, although I’m sceptical, it certainly feels cold enough for it. The other is that it seems toward the end of last week, the shops decided to bestow us with their best coats en masse after apparently holding them back for as long as possible. The fact we’re experiencing warmer temperatures further into autumn means retailers are reluctant to fill floors with wintry items until they’re actually called for. And it appears that time is now.

While there are lots of impressive coats out there, in my opinion, Topshop, Mango and Other Stories have the cream of the crop. From teddy to trench and leopard to check, I combed through thousands of coats and bring you the very best from all three stores. Keep scrolling and you’ll be ready to welcome winter with open, suitably toasty arms…
