The Polished Pairing I'll Be Wearing This Month Instead of Jeans and a Tee
In all honesty, I really do wish I could be a jeans-and-T-shirt kind of girl. How easy life would be! But I’m not, and therefore my personal quest for easy, throw-on outfits that feel casual is one that never ends.
This year, my daily ensembles have felt a little more laid back thanks to the near-constant addition of dad sandals in the place of heels, but I’ve now seen a two-piece outfit trending on Instagram that could be my fancy answer to true blues and a white crew neck.
Below you’ll find a series of loose-fitting tailored trousers paired with ultra-minimal vest tops. It’s a little bit ’90s and a lot like something that works for almost every occasion (one influencer, Lizzie Hadfield, made the combination even work for a wedding). I think this could well be my new fallback formula when a dress or skirt feels OTT.
The twosome appears to be most commonly seen in neutral, light hues and with trousers that are high waisted and wide legged. As for the vests, they should be made of white jersey (or another slinky fabric) and feature spaghetti straps or a racer front.
Of course, the actual options are actually quite vast, so I’ll be experimenting to see what works best with pieces I already own. Sorry, denim—your days are numbered (in this wardrobe at least). Keep scrolling to see the best trouser-and-vest outfits I’ve seen lately, and then shop the pieces to re-create them.
