We've Never Seen VB in This Denim Style—and She Really Suits It
Hot on the heels of her successful Esteé Lauder launch just over a week ago, there's clearly no rest for the powerhouse that is Victoria Beckham. The designer just delivered her S/S 18 runway show to the eager NYFW crowds, and as always, our eyes were as much on the collection as they were on her catwalk outfit choice. As is now customary, VB's own ensemble highlights the real mood of the tastemaker—when she starts wearing sneakers on the runway (as she has done now on multiple occasions, following the first—shocking—time), then you'll find many other high heel lovers ditching their stilettos for a gum sole. If Victoria swaps out body-con dresses for loose-fitting tailoring, fashion fans will follow. You get the idea.
So what was her sartorial memo this time? A three-piece rule that we've all relied upon time after time, and are always grateful to have in our wardrobes for a rainy day: Jeans, a white tee and some smart heels. That's all it is. But of course, like any observant girl will know, the devil is in the detail, and VB searches for perfection in even the simplest of items.
And so, to her chosen T-shirt. Crew-necked, baggy, tucked-in and erring on the side of mannish. The jeans? Higher in the waist, a mid-wash blue, tapered—like a grown-up hybrid of mom and boyfriend jeans that cut off at the ankle just so to reveal the third part of her winning "weekend" look. Lilac court shoes: Not the fancy shoe choice we'd first make (because, British weather), but it's an unexpected way to punctuate an otherwise tomboyish get-up.
It's an adaption of a look she's been trialling all week while in NYC. A few days back she wore the same trusty top with some tailored denim flares, as well as pairing her boyfriend jeans with a camel roll-neck and red heels.
As for the S/S 18 collection itself, you'll find a more feminine lilt: Flippy, pleated skirts worn in vibrant pastel shades that played matchy-matchy with shirts and shackets or knotted asymmetric dresses that fluttered as the models strode by. VB's aforementioned lilac shoes were, in fact, a part of the new-season offering, sitting pretty alongside other versions (as well as bags) in cornflower blue and sage green. Being #basic like a Beckham woman? That takes some dedication and an eagle eye.
