Skirts Are Top of Mind for Fall—6 Ways I'm Styling Them This Season
If there is one fashion item I am seeing around New York, on my Instagram feed, and on the runways, it's great skirts. I've come to the conclusion that the fashion crowd has decided this fall is going to be the season of skirts. Miniskirts, denim skirts, and column skirts are all fair game. Once you get your hands on the skirt of your dreams, the question is how you are going to style it. After all, a skirt is just a skirt without all of the rest of the pieces working in harmony to turn that skirt into a full-on look. After combing through tons of styling inspiration and studying the feeds of all of my favorite fashion influencers, I came up with six different ways to style skirts for fall that are so chic I almost didn't want to share. But gatekeeping isn't really my style.
Keep scrolling to see the six ways to style skirts for fall that I can't stop thinking about.
Vest Top + Classic Miniskirt + Lots of Jewelry + Rounded Sunglasses
Vest tops are having such a moment this fall, and I, for one, am not mad about it. They look good with basically any bottoms, but I particularly love pairing one with a miniskirt. The look has this schoolgirl nostalgia to it that just feels correct for fall. Add your favorite round sunnies and jewelry to dress it up. I'm loving this look for brunch on the weekends or with heels for a dinner date.
Column Skirt + Simple Top + Heeled Mules
This is becoming the year of the column skirt. From the runways to street style to our social media feeds, everywhere I turn, I'm seeing people embrace these longer-hemmed skirts. I personally am a huge fan. Column skirts have a certain elevated chicness that other skirts just don't. Add your favorite bodysuit, tee shirt, or tank and a pair of heeled mules for maximum effect. Simple, elevated, and stylish. I can't get enough of this one.
Denim Miniskirt + Graphic Tee + Oversize Jacket + Tall Boots
If you were searching for an easy way to wear a skirt in the daytime, then look no further. A denim miniskirt is the gift that keeps on giving. It does most of the work for you, and paired with a baby tee and oversize jacket, it adds the perfect touch of cool. This is the kind of look I would wear out and about around NYC with my friends on a weekend.
Leather Skirt + Slingbacks + High-Neck Top
If you're going for a combination of classy and edgy, then this look is right up your alley. This high-neck top actually goes with anything, but the balance of the soft knit top paired with a leather skirt is just so delicious to me. The slingbacks add a classy energy to the look, making it chic enough for a meeting or a dinner date. I didn't think I would be in the market for a long black leather skirt, and then I saw this picture and knew instantly I needed one.
Miniskirt + Ballet Flats + Crew-Neck Sweater + Socks
How adorable is this dog sweater from Ralph Lauren? It comes in three different shades, and I think I need them all. Pairing this crew-neck with a miniskirt and ballet flats with socks showing is such a small detail that really takes this look over the finish line for me. This look has that classy uptown NYC feel to it. So if that's your vibe, you can thank me later.
Maxi Skirt + Leather Belt + Cropped Jacket
When it comes to looking effortlessly cool, this outfit does it to a T. Anything Helsa Studio, I want it in my closet, especially this column skirt seen here on Elsa Hosk herself. It's so versatile, and the styling opportunities are endless. Pairing this skirt with the matching bomber and leather belt earns this outfit a 10/10 from me. I'd wear this look with sneakers and a bodysuit to keep it casual but still elevated.
