30 Winter Coats That Understood the Chic-But-Affordable Assignment

When it comes to adding new items to our wardrobe, none go through the same level of scrutiny that we put coats through. We want them to be versatile, look good, feel good and elevate whatever we choose to wear underneath. That's a lot. Throw adhering to a budget into the mix, and it might sound like you're setting yourself up for failure—that it would be impossible to find a coat that ticks all of these boxes. Thankfully, I've always liked a challenge.

Call it stubbornness or overconfidence, but I was sure I could find at last a handful of coats that fit the above brief—and, when I put my mind to it, I found 24 of them, which I've outlined for you below. My edit features coats that understood the assignment. Chic without being bank account busting, every coat you see before you comes in at £250 and under. Of course, I can't ascertain or assume what you see as being "affordable”—that term means very different things to different people—but I did make a conscious effort to include coats at every price point; further proof that you needn't spend a fortune to get your hands on some exemplary outerwear.
