This Major Fashion Faux Pas Just Received the Okay at Yeezy Season 5

Never one to shy away from a little controversy, Kanye West's Yeezy Season 5 show in New York last night presented one particular fashion question we weren't expecting. It wasn't the radical way he started the collection's looks via giant screens before the models took to the runway. Or the fact that Kim Kardashian West's colour palette in the FROW shifted noticeably in unison from Yeezy's beige tones to full-on head-to-toe merlot. Or that Anna Wintour continues to turn up to the show despite the furore that occurred once more in regards to West bucking the traditional scheduling system the CFDA has in place. Plenty of news outlets have been reporting on the super-gorgeous hijab-wearing model Halima Aden being part of his crew, but we're here to talk about the clothes themselves.

This time around it wasn't that the sky-high heels presented a formidable challenge to a person's general walking ability (there were some more sensible styles on offer in comparison to Season 4), but a subtle styling trick that caught our eye, made us think twice and will probably cause some of you to recoil in discomfort.

It was the sheer amount of tucking-in that was on display. Tracksuit tops tucked snugly into striped Adidas tracksuit bottoms. Joggers tucked into slouchy OTK boots. Rigid denim tucked stiffly into knee-high boots… We're au fait with a shirt demi-tucked into a pair of jeans, but this?

You could argue this extreme styling trend started with oversize sweatshirts and hoodies being wedged into bottoms at Vetements, but Kanye—along with his super-stylist, Christine Centenara—has taken the idea to the next level. Fight it as you might, what he does catches on. So between the other new offerings (a fresh sneaker style called the Yeezy Runner, gigantic bumbags and the first sign of jeans), there's a lot to consider. He put the sock-boot trend on the map and sneaker nerds continue to flock to his trainers.
