These Zara Jeans Are the Secret Fashion People Don't Want You to Know About
Hands up if you hate shopping for jeans! Yep, I'm never alone on this quest. Whether tall or short, slim or curvy, straight size or extended, finding the perfect pair of jeans is always an epic task. It doesn't matter whether you're after the perfect pair of high-street straight-legs, a wide-leg silhouette or even some cargos, every person and every body has unique requirements. Which I why I have just generally avoided even buying jeans over the past couple of decades. I have a few (very old) trusty pairs that I do depend upon—a dark wash cropped kick-flare from MiH (a brand that is no longer around, but I really wish it was), a mom jean from Boyish (quite good for petites) and some black skinnies from Mother (always such a comfy denim brand). But recently my "mum wardrobe", as I like to call it, has been crying out for some casual staples to keep it going. I'm a dress-and-heels girl at the core but my original outfits pre-toddler just don't cut it anymore and I have forced myself to relent and find some more laid-back items such as cosy knits, a puffer coat, chunky boots and—you guessed it—denim. Especially the kind of denim that can be worn with both flats and heels AND be stretchy enough to roll around on the floor while playing monster trucks. IYKYK.
Style Notes: Monikh chopped the hem off hers which is fine to do as they come cut-off anyway!
So when I saw that one ofBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing 's most trusted arbiters of classic wardrobe investments, our columnist Monikh, recommended Zara's Marine Jeans, I hopped to it. I had already noticed these a couple of times on the Zara site, and thought that the cut looked timeless, flattering and easy to wear. I liked that they were neat enough to fit around the waist and hips but featured a wide-leg cut that felt a little more up-to-date. I tried a pair on earlier in the autumn as part of Who What Wear's Great Try-On and I liked the stretch-denim and silhouette but the size (which would've been my usual) felt a little snug.
Skip forward a few months and my denim desperation in full swing, I ordered two pairs of Zara's Marine Jeans in a size up (if you have thicker thighs like me, then I'd suggest you do the same) et voilá, I've kept both pairs. I'm usually a size 12 in trousers and a 29 or 30 in jeans depending on the brand; Zara's size 14 in the Marine Jean cut was just right. This does mean that the size on these jeans is more limited than I'd ideally like to see, however.
Style Notes: Deputy Editor, Maxine Eggenberger also tried a pair of Zara's Marine Jeans on earlier in the year and liked the subtle wide-leg.
Since ordering (and swearing my allegiance) to Zara's Marine jeans, I've seen them cropping up both on my social feeds and IRL, with so many fashion editors in the fan club as well. After hearing me wax lyrical, the whole WWWUK team has been after a pair, but it turns out that the style is so popular, getting hold of them is like finding fashion gold dust. Lucky for you, theres just been a restock in most colours and sizes, hence why I felt it so important to share immediately! Style Notes: This style has a sailor-like patch pocket detailing at the front, and the dark indigo denim feels really polished for days when I need to feel comfy but put-together.
Style Notes: Monikh has been wearing her pair on repeat for months.
Style Notes: This purpley-brown pair felt like a more trend-led alternative to a classic shade of blue, and will work well with both tan and black accessories. Adding a belt to the high-waist gives a more retro feel. I'll keep these long even though they are supposed to hit above the ankle. I am 5'1'' so this floor-grazing length makes perfect sense…
