ThisBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing Editor Has the Perfect WFH Morning Routine
What's the first thing you do when you get out of bed in the morning? A well-rounded morning routine sets the tone for the day and gets you prepped—both mentally and physically—before diving into a packed schedule filled with emails, chores, happy hours, workouts, and more. Our series Morning Person profiles those who have mastered the art of the morning routine. Tune in every Monday morning here and on our Instagram to learn exactly how the pros get it all done before the sun comes up, from their go-to breakfasts to their a.m. workouts.
When I began researching and writing stories on work from home tips, the first people I thought of are two my co-workers,Best Knockoff Luxury Clothing 's Senior Editor Allyson Payer and Senior Market Editor Bobby Schuessler. They've been in the WFH game for a long time, and I knew they would have plenty of tips and tricks for maximum productivity. You can see what they had to say here.
For a lot of us, how we start our mornings really affects the rest of the day. And right now, our morning routines may have been thrown for a loop. So to help, Allyson shared how she gets ready for a full workday at home—it's totally okay (and encouraged!) to steal some of her ideas for yourself.
6:45 a.m.
I rarely sleep past 6:45 on weekday mornings, and if I'm going to a workout class (when that was a thing), I'm up by 6:15. The first thing I do is wash my face (lately I've been using Versed Wash It Out Gel Cleanser) and drink hot water with lemon or lime. It's so detoxifying and it wakes me up a bit, which is good because I don't usually have any caffeine until later in the morning.
7:00 a.m.
I'm obsessed with Kind bars and I always have one before a workout. The Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Nut one is divine. Because I get up so early and don't usually have lunch until around 1 p.m., I eat breakfast in stages (more on that later). I'll scroll through my emails and Instagram at this point so that I'm not scrambling to catch up after I exercise.
7:30 a.m.
Since staying home is the new norm, I've been relying on workouts like ClassPass videos, jump roping, and jogging outside. I love doing group fitness classes, so these solitary workouts have been a bit of an adjustment for me, but I'm figuring it out.
8:30 a.m.
After my workout, I shower, put on some natural makeup (i.e. Nars tinted moisturizer and concealer, cream blush and eyeshadow, Glossier mascara, brow gel, and tinted moisturizer).
Since I work from home full time, I'm well stocked with comfortable items like sweatpants, leggings, stretchy jeans, and tees. Even though comfort is key, I try to wear outfits that make me feel like I tried. I do write about fashion all day, after all.
9:00 a.m.
Next is part two of my breakfast. I've been eating the same thing for four years: Greek yogurt with honey and cinnamon and some berries if I have them. If you want to take it a step further, you can mix in some nut butter, top it with chia seeds, flax seeds, or hulled hemp seeds, and/or use a different fruit, like bananas. I usually get coffee out as a special treat but these days, I've had to make it at home. I've been making lattes with a Nespresso machine and Matcha lattes by hand with ceremonial-grade powder and oat milk. I recently purchased a frother on Amazon and it's been such a game changer. It even makes cold foam.
9:15 a.m.
The nice thing about working from home is that you can start working as early as you want if you so please. On days that I work out in the morning, I'll usually start working on my Who What Wear stories by 9:15. The first thing I do is scroll through the photo agencies in search of good celebrity outfits to post while I drink my frothy latte.
