This Is the Best-Selling Highlighter in America—and I Can Totally See Why

When it comes to choosing beauty products, there are plenty of ways to go about deciding whether something might be right for you. Perhaps you'll ask friends for recommendations or check out whether your favourite celebrities have shared the contents of their makeup bags online. Maybe you'll take a look at what beauty editors like myself swear by or find out what products makeup artists keep in their kit. But, of course, even with all of that research there's always a risk that a makeup product that looks incredible on Rosie HW just might not look the same on your own skin.

Luckily, though, a recent study from market-based research company NPD Group has revealed one product that basically everyone in America loves—and, it turns out, so do I.

Yes, a study released this week revealed that the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter (£30) is the best-selling highlighter in America this year. Pretty impressive, right? The product already has something of a cult status thanks to celebrities like Chrissy Teigen and Kourtney Kardashian swearing by the glow that it gives. In fact, Teigen described it as the "best highlighter on the planet."

And it's not just the celebs that love it; it's their makeup artists too. Allan Avendaño, whose clients include Zendaya and Lucy Liu, told Teen Vogue that it would have to be his favourite highlighter. "[The shade Opal] can be applied to most skin tones. Usually, for fair skin, use highlighters with a white or very pale champagne tone. [On] medium skin, I like to use champagne or light gold tones, and for dark skin, I like to used gold or bronze tones."

Similarly, Matthew VanLeeuwen—who has painted the faces of everyone from Scarlett Johansson to Emily Blunt—loves Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. "My favourite powder highlighter is a recent find, and I'm obsessed with it! [The shade is] called Champagne Pop," he told Forbes. "It's absolutely the perfect highlight colour for almost every skin shade. It goes on soft and creamy, and gives the perfect shot of light to the skin. For a fresh, allover glow, I lightly apply it to the entire face with a big powder brush. It's a must have."

Beyond the A-list, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector is a favourite amongst beauty fanatics and editors—including myself. In fact, it reached cult status in the beauty community after the brand collaborated with beauty influencer Jaclyn Hill back in 2015 with the shade Champagne Pop. Now a part of the brand's core collection of highlighter shades, at the time, trying to get your hands on one of these sell-out powders was like trying to get your hands on gold dust.

To me, it's no surprise that the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector has been officially coined the best-selling highlighter in America. It's a staple in my everyday makeup bag for the beautifully sheeny glow it gives to skin, and clearly you'll find it in the beauty stashes of people all over the U.S.
