Eyebrows are one of the first things people see when they look at our faces. And while many of us spent the '90s and early 2000s doing everything in our power to make our eyebrows as thin as humanly possible, the trend has definitely shifted in favor of fuller, more prominent brows. Thank goodness for eyebrow pencils and growth serum.

Now that we've given our handy tweezers a break, we have so many more options when it comes to eyebrow shape. But all brows are not created equal. According to celebrity brow artists Damone Roberts and Kelley Baker, whose client rosters boast celebs from Oprah to the Kardashians, there's much to consider. One of the most important factors in determining the best direction to take with eyebrows? Face shape. Ahead, get their expert tips for how to pick the best eyebrows for your face shape.

Square

According to the pros, the name of the game for those with square faces is to soften the features with subtle, rounded brows. "When you have an angular face, we would soften the brows and round them out a little bit, or soften them and give more of a shorter Audrey Hepburn boy brow," says Baker, who created lovely boy brows for square-faced goddess Shay Mitchell.

"Some arching is good here, if we can, to lift and open the eyes," says Baker. "The rounder the face, the higher the arch to add length. But I do caution against going overboard, which tends to make one appear stern and angry," says Roberts, who's responsible for Oprah's perfectly round-face-complementing arches.

Rectangle

Longer, rectangular faces are best complemented with straighter brows, according to our experts. "As soon as brows start to look too angled, they age people. So I always like a softer shape to keep a more youthful look in the face," says Baker. Roberts agrees, adding that "full brows leaning more toward the straighter side look beautiful."

Oval

Since oval-shaped faces have some similar qualities to both long and round faces, our pros advise going for a subtle shape that adds to the depth without adding more length."Obviously, if your face is round, we don't want to give you round brows, because then there's no dimension," says Baker. "We want a defined brow with a subtle arch. Just not too extreme," adds Roberts.

Heart

For those with heart-shaped faces, the goal is to shorten the face a bit while also creating a brow that's large enough to fill out the ample forehead real estate available. "A heart-shaped face should have the least of an arch, as you don't want to add more length. Keep it on the straighter side, which shortens the face," Roberts explains.

Diamond-shaped faces have a bit more freedom when it comes to selecting a brow shape. Since the forehead tends to be smaller and the face tends to be longer, you might think thin, straight brows would be the only way to go. But since the shape can take on so many different looks depending on fullness, there's a lot of room to play. Roberts just has one pro tip: "Not too defined, with a nice arch."
