Beauty Editors and Celebrity MUAs Swear These 15 Lip Glosses Are the Only Ones Worth Buying RN

It's poppin'.

If you talk to anyone who works in the beauty industry, chances are we've tried every single lip product imaginable. Lipsticks, plumpers, balms, tints, stains… You name it—we've tried it. But there's one product that beauty-industry experts love above all else: lip glosses.

It's not just that they feel nostalgic (the glassy, often sparkly finishes remind us of the 2000s celebrities and socialites we used to idolize), but they also have that certain je ne sais quoi that pulls any look together. While the sticky-sweet lip glosses of the early aughts will forever hold a place in our hearts, these formulas have been evolving over the last 20-something years, introducing balm hybrids, plumpers, and more into the world of lacquery lippies. On a mission to find the best of the best, we turned to celebrity makeup artists and our own team of beauty editors to find out what the cream of the lip gloss crop is in 2025, according to the people who test them day in and out.

FAQ

What should I look for in a lip gloss?

Lip gloss is all about personal preference, but it's best to opt for a hydrating formula that conditions lips while it adds shine. Nonsticky formulas are the easiest to wear throughout the day, and added color is entirely up to you.

Which lip gloss colors are best for different skin tones?

Your lip gloss color of choice is entirely dependent on you and your look of choice. Whether you want to go bold and bright, wear something close to your skin tone, or reach for something that gives you more contrast. Your shade journey is entirely up to you. However, David Razzano, editorial makeup artist and Sephora beauty director, encourages you to reach for a shade opposite your skin tone.

"Where people make a mistake with makeup is looking for shades that they think are appropriate for their skin tone," says Razzano. "It's a sheer gloss. If we put [a deep gloss] on pale skin, you're going to have the effect of a dark lip, but it's going to be sheer, so it won't be heavy—it creates contrast." The same goes for deep skin: Light-colored glosses on deep skin tones will not wash you out. Instead, they'll create contrast.
