When it comes to French films, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 2001 feature Amélie takes the cake. Audrey Tautou’s portrayal of the quirky, lovable Parisian whose knack for imagination and adventure is one of our all-time favorite roles. Though the film is now 16 years old, it’s still an absolute favorite in our library.
In March of this year, an adaptation will hit the Broadway stage, which was more than enough inspiration to make Amélie our latest subject of our Current Channeling series.

After a childhood of parental neglect, Amélie grows up and decides to move into her own apartment in the Parisian neighborhood of Montmartre. Though introverted, she has a fierce imagination that leads her to a very pivotal discovery (you’ll have to watch to find out what!). After this, she decides to devote her time to doing good for others.
Along the way, she meets a slew of fascinating and peculiar characters, including a love interest, with whom she engages in a game of cat and mouse.
