Sorry, Heels, Flats, and Loafers—9 Fall Sneaker Trends That Matter Way More
Classic white? Snakeskin? Soft suede? Check, check, and check!

Summer calls for sandals, and winter calls for boots, but what about fall? With the season fast approaching, I've been thinking long and hard about the most important shoe style to buy ahead of autumn's arrival, and after lots of deliberation, I've settled on sneakers. They're comfy and, therefore, perfect for enjoying the short-but-sweet brisk weather that fall brings. They also go with everything, from warm-weather staples like white skirts and slip dresses to chillier essentials like sweaters and jeans. Fall is a transitional season, so your shoes need to be versatile, which sneakers certainly are. Now, all that's left to do is determine which pairs to buy, and to do that, you have to study up on fall sneaker trends in 2025, a topic I'll dive into in three, two, one…
I researched countless runway looks, street style outfits, and Instagram posts over the past week in an effort to supply you with as full a pool of fall sneaker options as possible. From that approach, I was able to narrow down the top trends to nine that feel especially relevant right now. Overall, low-profile designs are continuing to dominate over the chunkier silhouettes of past years, and suede and leather reign in the material department. Neutrals like navy, tan, and white are among the most popular colors; however, primary shades of red, blue, green, and yellow are also gaining momentum in fashion.
Don't be surprised when you stumble upon a beaded bauble or high-top design in the trend guide ahead. Not all sneakers in 2025 are simple and understated. There's a bit of personality being incorporated in the shoe genre this season as well. It's all available to shop for below.
Low Profile
Looking at the big picture, low-profile sneakers are, by far, the most popular style of all right now. Whether you buy them in suede, leather, nylon, or satin, it doesn't really matter. All that counts is that your sneakers don't feature any of the ultra-chunky details that once led the charge in this space. Designer brands like Prada and Miu Miu are on board—as are sneaker specialists like Puma and Adidas. Everyone's making low-profile sneakers in 2025, and as a result, they've become the overarching It sneakers of fall.

White After Labor Day
I know, I know—the rule is that you're not supposed to wear white after Labor Day, but does anyone actually listen to that anymore? I definitely do not, especially when it comes to sneakers. This fall, classic white sneakers will continue to be a favorite, particularly among minimalist, elegant dressers. They're versatile, sophisticated, and timeless. What's more to want?
Shop white sneakers:
Soft, Subtle, and Suede
If you're looking for a pair of sneakers that will make you look rich, you've come to the right place. Suede sneakers are, without a doubt, the most popular style among luxury brands, from Dries Van Noten to Miu Miu. What's great about them is that they don't really give off "sneaker energy." They look more elevated and less sporty but have all the benefits (e.g., comfort) of sneakers. The best part? They're not all pricey. Brands like COS, Reformation, and Dolce Vita make affordable options that only look expensive.
Shop suede sneakers:
Sneakerinas
Even if you've never heard the term "sneakerina" before, you've definitely seen a pair somewhere out and about. The soft, barefoot-feeling ballerina sneakers are everywhere, particularly pairs by brands like Vivaia (as seen on Bella Hadid), Prada, Adidas, and more. This week, I even previewed a few not-yet-released pairs, which only proved their continued dominance in the sneaker space. Clunky, shin splint giving sneakers? Pass. We want our sneakers to be dainty and perfect for ballet class or lunch at Erewhon.
Shop sneakerinas:
Personality Pieces
Just like in the world of accessories right now (think bag charms, brooches, funky hats, and more), showing off your unique style and personality with individualized sneakers is proving to be popular in the fashion space. Switch out your white laces for ribbons and colorful pairs or—better yet—tie in additional laces to busy up your footwear. Add beads, bows, and baubles to already-colorful styles, or buy done-up sneakers by playful brands like Cecilie Bahnsen, Dries Van Noten, and Susan Fang.

The Primaries
Though white sneakers are certainly essential to any fall 2025 shoe collection, so is at least one pair of bright, vibrant kicks that can act as the primary attention drawer of any outfit. Wear green sneakers with a suit for a cool, casual ensemble, or style a red pair with vintage jeans and a white T-shirt. Yellow sneakers have become especially popular, styled with white skirts, black trousers, and flowy T-shirt dresses. The styling options are endless when it comes to sneakers in primary colors.
Shop colorful sneakers:
In the Ring
I know they're not the most traditional, but high-top boxing-inspired sneakers are rising the ranks in fashion at the moment nonetheless. This trend is being led by luxury houses like Celine and Alaïa as well as sneaker giants such as Adidas and Puma. Even Ralph Lauren has a pair on the market, and they're selling out quickly. Would you try them?

Not Your Average Prints
If you're way over quiet luxury, this is the sneaker trend for you. Leopard prints, snakeskin, and cow-patterned pony hair sneakers are all being spotted on stylish dressers already this season, and styles by Miu Miu, Adidas, and more are quickly becoming It buys for fall. They certainly make a statement—one that says that you're not afraid of standing out. Trust me. That lack of fear will pay off in dividends. These shoes are instant compliment attractors.
Shop animal-print sneakers:
Mildly Sporty
I love sports just as much as (or probably more than) the next person, but when it comes to my non-fitness sneakers, I prefer a mild approach to sportiness—probably because I'm not planning to work out in them. They're lifestyle sneakers, so I want them to fit more with my regular wardrobe as opposed to the contents of my activewear bin. I'm not the only one. Many people are opting to buy somewhat sporty but more laid-back sneakers, like New Balance's RC42 Sneakers and Nike's Air Superfly style. They still have that technical look but aren't overtly sporty, so they pair well with everyday apparel, like trousers and skirts.
