If I Could Only Own One Sweater for Fall, It Would Be This Incredibly Soft Style
If there's one thing I complain the most about in the fall and winter, it's being cold. I love a crisp air as much as anyone, but the second the temperature dips below 65°, one of my most said phrases becomes, "I'm cold" (on repeat until late spring comes around). I wish I were one of those people who thrives on layering and bundling up, but I never have been (trust me, I've tried).
The second mid-September hits, I keep a cashmere sweater on hand at all times. If I'm not fully wearing one, it's probably draped over my shoulders or in my bag just in case. It makes braving the cold at least semi-tolerable. Beyond that, they're soft, timeless, and instantly elevate whatever I'm wearing—even the simplest basics.
My most-worn is J.Crew's Cashmere Relaxed V-Neck Sweater. Given how much I live in it, I'm looking to expand my collection this year. Here are the brands I've been turning to while I'm shopping for cashmere.
J.Crew
It's hard not to think of J.Crew when it comes to this material: the retailer has a whole section devoted to it called The Cashmere Shop. I already have one color of the Cashmere Relaxed V-Neck Sweater, but I'd like more. Others on my wishlist are the Cashmere High V-neck Sweater and Perfect Cashmere Crewneck Sweater.
Loulou de Saison
Loulou de Saison was founded by Parisian influencer Chloé Harrouche. She couldn't find her dream knitwear, so she decided to make it herself. The line is truly so chic, all in neutral hues and classic shapes—I want everything.
Cos
Our Shopping Director Bobby Schuessler recently posted an Instagram with the caption, "The Cos sweater I won't shut up about"—referring to the Chunky Pure Cashmere Crew-Neck Sweater. His seal of approval influenced me to order one for myself. It's the ideal heavy weight knit, which comes in beige, pink, and black.
Banana Republic
Another go-to at a more accessible price point is Banana Republic. The Oversized Midweight Cashmere Crew-Neck Sweater is the perfect wardrobe staple I know I'll wear all the time. Turtlenecks a cold-weather essential for me, so I'm eyeing the Cashmere Turtleneck Sweater as well.
