This Sweater Is Ridiculously Expensive, but Fashion Girls Are Obsessed
As we head into sweater weather, there's nothing like a good, reliable—yet fashion-forward—knit to keep us warm (and smartly dressed) as the temperature cools. The fashion crowd always has their eyes set on particular picks, but this year it's already evident that a certain number has secured its position as a fall weather favorite.
During fashion month we were treated to a generous catalog of covetable sartorial offerings, both on and off the runway. When it came to dressing for the streets, one sweater seemed to capture our collective attention, as well as adoration. Reminiscent of a high school staple, this stylized piece was a loud and audacious take on outerwear with bold bands of red, white, and blue. Complete with cheerleader uniform stripes, pouf sleeves, and a bedazzled panther, this Gucci Fall 2016 number stole the show when it came to fashion month street style (and possibly all of sweater-dressing this season).
When it first appeared on the Gucci runway last winter, the statement piece was paired with a voluminous miniskirt adorned in a vintage postcard print and topped off with glittery glasses. Not one to stand on the sidelines, the varsity sweater was revived on streets of fashion week with vertically striped A-line skirts, side-stripe flares, and leather pants that gave way to sky-high platforms. Every look was something worth cheering for as we root on the return of an American classic with just the right touch of calculated bombast the Italian fashion house is known for.

Eva Chen has nicknamed the statement piece her "epic Gucci cheerleading sweater."
Christine Centenera went for red, white, and blue striped top to bottom, pairing her varsity sweater with a coordinating skirt.
In this look, the sweater's collegiate stripes were echoed in bright red on the sides of oversize pants.
