These Are the Denim Trends I'm Excited to Try in 2023 as a Plus-Size Editor

As a plus-size fashion editor, I can't begin to tell you how many trends I've looked at and thought, Huh? As much as I love being on the cutting edge of style and experimenting with new silhouettes, it's not a stretch of the imagination to say that not every trend is neither accessible (nor inclusive) for people of all body types to implement into their wardrobe.

Historically, fashion has a size-inclusivity problem, but the spring/summer 2023 season was notorious for its large lack of plus-size models on the runway, something non straight-sized influencers and editors questioned. As someone who spends all day looking at runways to predict the next big trends, I'm inclined to agree.

Thankfully, denim's 2023 resurgence means more retailers and designers are releasing plus-size styles that feel fresh and exciting for any fashion lover, regardless of size. My favorite piece of clothing is jeans so naturally, I've spent hours scrolling through all of my favorite retailers to find that oh-so-perfect piece of denim I'll be adding to my closet.

Below, shop all of next year's cant-miss denim trends—including the ones that are made with every body in mind.

Long denim skirts have been having a moment for the past few months, with the style being reminiscent of the mid-2000s zeitgeist thanks to the bohemian, indie-girl red-carpet looks of the time.

Denim-on-denim is a trend that hasn't been given its flowers nearly as much as I think it should. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's 2001 American Music Awards fashion aside, the Canadian tuxedo is a no-brainer. Invest in these denim tops in 2023.

Oversized Puddle Pants

So long, mom jeans. I've been obsessed with perfectly pooled puddle pants or jeans that are just a tad bit too long. Unlike the baggy, '90s low-rise jeans that dominated 2022, puddle pants are a slimmer, straighter cut that emphasizes the leg while creating just enough of an oversize look.

I've said it time and time again: Jumpsuits are my go-to outfit when I don't want to think too hard about fashion. Denim utility suits and flight suits have been on my mind since the summer (Thanks, Top Gun: Maverick), and I can't wait to add more to my closet in the New Year.
