4 Throw-On Shoes Londoners Are Now Wearing Instead of Boots
When it comes to shoe choices, I've become pretty predictable in my preferences. From the black, block-heel boots I wear throughout winter and spring, I transition into classic horesebit loafers when temperatures slowly begin to rise. Then, come summer and it's slip-on slider sandals until it's time to usher in my loafers once September comes around. So, you can imagine the horror when, this weekend, the first time it felt genuinely plausible to step outside without cosy socks on, I remembered that, last autumn, I had to part with my beloved leather loafers. I'd had them for at least five years, and considering the amount of wear they get, they were looking more than a little worse for wear. I told myself, "I'll treat myself to a fresh pair come spring", only to forget about this promise until, well, I actually wanted to wear them. It's now the point where boots just don't seem as appropriate as they did last month (save for perhaps cowboy boots), and with talk of a heatwave on the horizon, I need a shoe to get me through this stage in the season.
So, I took a closer look at the recent shoe offerings fashionable people are wearing as they go about their business in London, and it didn't take long to identify that there are four key shoe styles currently dominating the pavements of the capital. From the update on trainers I spot so often, it can't be a coincidence, to the flats that will give your outfits instant polish, scroll on to see the top London shoe trends for 2023.
1. VELVET MARY JANES
Mary Janes have been a key player in 2023's footwear trends but, instead of leather styles, I'm seeing more and more velvet iterations come through.
Anne-Victoire proves they're just as prevalent in Paris as they are on the streets of London.

Another brand that knows all about stellar footwear.
2. FLAT CLOGS
For those days when a cloudy sky makes sandals feel a bit risky flat mules will give you the same effect.
The backless silhouette nods to summer, but the closed toes provide extra warmth. Win-win.

3. BLACK TRAINERS
Perhaps it's fashion's current obsession with Sambas and Gazelles, but I'm seeing more black trainers than ever.
The monochromatic colourway will seamlessly pick up where your boots left off.

If you're looking for an investment pair, these are the ones.
4. DEMI-HEEL LOAFERS
You didn't think I was going to leave loafers out, did you? Now, though, I'm focusing my energy on pairs with easy-to-walk-in heels.
Although chunky styles are still very popular, there has been a subtle shift towards more refined pairs, complete with metallic detailing.
