As an on-the-go model and content creator, Sanne Vloet is used to spending the majority of her time, prior to the pandemic, in transit from casting calls, meetings, and long days on set. And like most of us, 2020 gave Vloet the opportunity to slow down, prioritize her self-care, and find comfort in creating a balanced morning routine.

Last year, Vloet co-founded Nekohama, a matcha company with her partner and best friends, and suffice to say, it's been a labor of love for everyone involved. We recently caught up with Vloet to see how she's kept up with the wellness habits she adopted during the pandemic.

6:30 A.M.

I love waking up early, as I am such a morning person! This is the time of day when I feel the most productive and energized.

The first thing I do is go downstairs and hydrate myself with tons of water! It helps to get a big bottle and fill it up before the day starts. I'll take my Seed Daily Synbiotic supplements for gut health and get ready to make my morning matcha.

Something that I realized during the pandemic was that making my matcha was such an important step in my morning ritual. It gave me certainty and a practice of mindfulness in uncertain times. This was the moment that my half-Japanese boyfriend and I decided to start our own high-quality matcha brand, Nekohama. It's ceremonial-grade matcha powder without a bitter and chalky aftertaste.

I'll prep my cup of matcha and will either do some journaling or reading. I try to stay off my phone for the first 30 minutes after I wake up, because I don’t want to feel overwhelmed with work emails as New York is three hours ahead.

Then I'll get my foam roller out, which is also a habit that I started during the pandemic. Due to all the travel I was doing, my entire body was always in pain, and foam rolling every morning has helped me release my muscles and improved my posture. I think we sometimes forget that our body needs rest and care. I'll also try to get a quick workout in and I love switching between weight training for strength and pilates to lengthen and tone the muscles.

Afterward, I'll shower and do my simple morning skincare routine. When it comes to skincare, I believe less is more. I'll start by washing my face with Farmacy Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser in the shower.

Since I have very dry skin, I prioritize using a hyaluronic serum for hydration. Recently, I have been using Facile Dew You, and I have been really liking it. Then, I'll follow up with Dr. Barbara Sturm Face Cream—I love every single item from her skincare line.

And finally, the most important step: sunscreen! I have been using Elta MD Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 forever since it doesn't feel greasy. My makeup routine is pretty natural as well. I'll use Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Natural Skin Perfector with SPF as a light coverage.

If I work out, I'll make breakfast around this time, otherwise, I'll often have my first meal around noon when I intuitively feel hungry. My nutrition is overall very clean and healthy with lots of veggies, whole foods, and organic protein. There is nothing that I don't eat, but I'll do so in moderation.

When I make breakfast, I love a good avocado toast on sourdough bread. The bread is really important for me since I grew up in Holland and bread is just so good there! I'll also make a smoothie with frozen spinach, fruits, almond milk, collagen protein powder from Wellthy or Bullet Proof. And on the weekends, I love nothing more than breakfast tacos! After a satisfying breakfast, I'll get my day started.
