After starting her career with a stint in culinary school, Erica Chidi Cohen became a birth and postpartum doula, which lead her to start her company, LOOM, in 2016. The Los Angeles based empowered education and wellness center focuses on everything from periods to parenting, and in the newest episode of Second Life, the LOOM co-founder and CEO shares her story of making the transition to wellness entrepreneur with Hillary Kerr.
Although Cohen's time at a "Cordon Bleu ish" French culinary school is far from what she's doing today, she says the intensity of it prepared her for doula work and for running a business. She told Kerr, "My culinary background, which I thought was like 'Well, guess I've got that. Not sure how we're going to use it,' folded in really well within the pregnancy and the postpartum kind of space because people needed better nutrition or were more interested in improving what their nutritional spectrum looked like."
With LOOM, Cohen is providing empowered health education that covers everything from sex and periods to miscarriage support from its beautiful, welcoming L.A. space. Not only that, but she's also the author of Nurture: A Modern Guide to Pregnancy, Birth, Early Motherhood—and Trusting Yourself and Your Body, and she just launched Nurture, a five-part online birth course. Head to iTunes and subscribe to Second Life to find out how Cohen made the transition to wellness and health education.
