The £2 Styling Tweak We're Stealing From Fashion's New Favourite Shoes
We love Miu Miu. We love shoes. We love an (almost) free styling trick that transforms our closets. We also love it when a street style trend comes together and we realise we can implement it without any hesitation into our own daily getting-dressed rituals. So imagine our interest in what's happening right here with Miu Miu's new It shoes: The ribbon-trimmed ballet pumps and stiletto courts were a popular fixture on the streets of fashion week thanks to their unique hybrid of pretty and punk—but can you see how this must-have can be made just for you and your existing footwear collection?
Miu Miu's shoes come with interchangeable ribbons so you can purposefully mismatch them. Whether you choose to follow suit or plump for one colour on this ankle-strap action all you need to do is this:
1. Pick out a pair of your shoes that already has an ankle strap.
2. Take out that ankle strap and loop your chosen ribbon through instead. You may need to use a safety pin or kirby grip to carefully push the ribbon through.
3. Make the ribbon (and we'd recommend going for gingham that you can pick up at Amazon for about £2 for three metres) extra long so that you can wrap around the ankle a few times then fasten in a neat bow.
Scroll down to see Miu Miu's gorgeous shoes in action—then, if you're really not feeling crafty, shop the range now!
Style Notes: Natasha Goldenberg opts for the un-coordinated taken on this new shoe trend, then continues her print clash with geometric patterns on her polo top and long pencil skirt.
Style Notes: Black and white gingham goes surprisingly well with pastels—try this trick on your old nude shoes and see them sparkle again.
Shop for more spring gingham pieces.
Style Notes: Sawn-off, ankle-grazing denim allows your ribbon tie-ups to be showcased at their best.
Style Notes: Make like French It girl Jeanne Damas and be extra jaunty with just one ankle encased in grosgrain ribbon.
