The 8 Best Silk Hair Wraps for Healthy, Shiny Hair
Wrapping my hair at night is something that’s been instilled in me since I was a little kid. When my hair was freshly styled for school on Monday, my mum would pop on a headscarf or turban (or if one couldn’t be found, a pair of tights), so over the past 29 years, I have tried my fair share of silk hair wraps.
The industry has come a long way, and now there is a plethora of chic and effective silk hair wraps to keep your hair healthy. If you’re not aware of the benefits of wearing a silky hair wrap, here’s the lowdown: Silk reduces friction and therefore prevents excess damage and fragility. The texture also helps prevent frizz. Plus, cotton is known to draw moisture out of the hair and scalp, whereas silk is less likely to do this. If you are looking for a vegan alternative, satin hair wraps are just as protective and some say even better for your hair than silk. This is because silk is still a natural fibre, like cotton, and therefore can still pull some moisture from your strands, whereas satin can be woven with purely man-made fibres.
Take a look a look at our top picks below. Your glossy hair will thank you.
1. Silke Hair Wrap
Silke is the epitome of luxury headwear. So much so I’d be happy to don mine outside as well as to bed. It’s composed of 100% pure mulberry 22-momme-grade silk and is handmade in London. If you're wondering if it’ll fit a protective style, no need to sweat. The lining is expandable.
2. Slip Pure Silk Turban
Slip’s 100% silk turbans are double-lined for extra comfort and a frictionless night's sleep. It is better if you have short or fine hair, though, as the fit is quite snug, even for a small head shape.
3. Kitsch Multi-Way Satin Sleep Scarf
This scarf is made from 96% Dacron and 4% spandex, so if you’re avoiding silk, this is a great alternative. Also, the shape of this scarf gives you versatility when styling, whether you just want to cover your edges or need to let your braids hang loose.
4. Kitsch Satin Sleep Cap
Perfect for braids and cornrows, this is like a satin iteration of the do-rags you may have worn as a kid. If you prefer your hair off your neck when you sleep, though, you’re better off opting for a scarf or bonnet.
5. Lilysilk Silk Night Bonnet With Ribbons
If the retro vibe of this bonnet isn’t compelling enough, it’s also crafted using the 100% grade 6A mulberry silk for pristine quality. The ribbons allow you to tighten the bonnet so there’s no risk of it slipping off during the night.
6. Only Curls Satin Sleep Turban in Dusty Rose
If you have a head full of long, thick curls, this is the best option for you, as the size of the bonnet allows you to pineapple your hair for perfect definition in the morning.
7. Cantu Satin Bonnet
This large satin bonnet is a great alternative to natural silk hair wraps. It’s a classic bonnet shape that fits snuggly on the hairline for zero movement no matter how much of a restless sleeper you are.
8. Grow Gorgeous Satin Bonnet
Made with a vegan-friendly satin weave, this hair wrap is good for shorter cuts and pixie styles, as the fabric fits closely to the shape of your head.
