The Elegant Top People Are Suddenly Wearing With Jeans and Leather Trousers
As winter draws in, I can't help but want to incorporate a few more little luxuries into my life. When craving more sunlight and shielding against the cold 24/7, one really does come to appreciate some of life's smaller pleasures. As a fashion editor, naturally, some of my favourite luxuries come in the form of clothing, and in my opinion, there are few greater than a silk shirt. With an impossibly soft, premium finish and the ability to marry comfort and style, there's no better time to incorporate this luxe piece than the advent of winter. When styled with rich velvet trousers or layered under a chic brown blazer, an elegant blouse like this complements heavier winter fabrics, adding a lighter feel to any ensemble. It's a perfect smart-casual option for the party season ahead.
Offering infinite styling options that can see you through a trip to the office or a festive evening out, a silk shirt is a year-round wardrobe game-changer. I suspect it's coming to the fore right now because of winter's dramatic shift to the sophisticated: camel coats, heeled, knee-high boots, tote bags and tailored skirts are all trending harder this season than in previous years, when casual cuts and outfits reigned supreme.
Whilst any luxurious fabric will come at a higher cost than its synthetic counterparts, I've found silk shirt options that span all price brackets. From Massimo Dutti's chocolate brown iteration to The Row's perfectly slouchy ivory style, read on to discover the trend and shop the best silk shirts below. And don't forget that this is the perfect kind of piece to look out for in charity shops or secondhand online, as the silk shirt has been a classic item for so long.
SHOP MY EDIT OF THE BEST SILK SHIRTS:
Layer underneath your favourite wool jumper or style partly unbuttoned with lashings of jewellery.
This deep sapphire blue would add a touch of luxury to any outfit.
Just like the perfect white shirt, a reliable black shirt is a wardrobe necessity.
Deep brown styles so well with red and cream.
In my opinion, the slightly oversized fit and long, slouchy sleeves make for the perfect silk shirt.
Muted khaki shades go with everything. Wear printed trousers or denim jeans.
