Experts Predict These 8 Makeup Trends Will Be Huge This Summer
A change of season is the ideal time to switch up your makeup. While a heavier lipstick or darker eyeshadow might work in the colder winter months, it doesn't always translate for warmer climate. We'll often switch out full coverage foundations for lightweight skin tints as the temperatures rise, and choose colours that pair perfect with our summer wardrobe.
However, shifting from a seasonal makeup rut can be tricky. So, we enlisted the help of some of the top makeup artists to help guide the way to some of the top summer makeup trends for 2022.
Summer 2022 Makeup Trends
1. Colour Pop
"Bold colours in all forms is a big trend,” says makeup artist, Lan Nguyen-Grealis. "As colour cosmetics begin to grow again, fun in makeup is back on track. Whether in block or as a eyeliner detail the products are here to stay," she says, predicting that long lasting formulas in bright hues will be big news for summer."
A touch of bright eyeshadow in the corners of the eyes is a playful nod to the trend.

3. Fluffy Brows
"Brows are big, brushed and youthful and give a minimal look," says Lan. "Groomed brows with staying power are made achievable with long-lasting pencils, gels with wax products to keep them in place."
A sweep of a clear gel through the brows keeps them looking neat yet minimal if you're not a fan of filling them in.
For a softer look, opt for an eyeshadow matched to the shade of your brows, and use an angled eyebrow brush for diffused definition.

4. 90s Bronze
Chanel makeup artist Anna Payne predicts the return of bronzer for summer, but with a 90s twist. She recommends using a cream or water-tinted bronzer to give skin a subtle wash of colour. You should still be able to see your real skin through it.
Sweep bronzer along the forehead, cheekbones and nose a la Lily Aldridge.
If you want to add more colour to the skin, apply a blusher on top to enhance the sun kissed look.

6. Glass Blusher
Blusher formulas have come a long way. Gone are the days of chalky powder blushes that sit on the skin. For summer, look for cream and liquid formulas that bounce light away from the skin for a multi-dimensional, radiant look.
Nothing says summer like a flush of colour on the skin. Anna recommends applying a lighter shade all over the apples of your cheeks, before applying a slightly deeper hue on the top to create dimension.

7. Body Glazing
For summer, it makes sense to extend the glow on our faces to the skin on our bodies, giving an expensive looking sheen to shins, shoulders and décolletage. Look for skin perfecting body makeup that reflects light to get your glow on.
