How to Dress When It's Hot and Rainy Outside
Growing up in California—statistically the driest state during summer—the idea of rainfall during the warmer months simply never crossed my mind. However, after relocating to New York last year, I quickly learned the sartorial struggle that is dressing for a wet 90-degree day. And though I’ve only had one season to practice, there’s still a small handful of closet staples I’ve found to be particularly useful when putting together warm-weather outfits for rain.
Alongside breathable fabrics like linen and cotton, these three key items always come in handy when it’s hot out but the weather app is reporting that showers may be headed your way. While unfortunately, there’s not much to be done about humidity, the good news is that when armed with the right gear, you can avoid getting totally soaked.
If you live in a location that’s bound to experience rain showers this summer, see below for my quick and easy shopping list.
If temperatures are sweltering and you need a quick piece to throw over your summer dress, what better way to show off your personal style than with a cute raincoat?
Can’t bear the thought of wearing anything with sleeves? That’s okay. Ward off water with a fashion-forward umbrella.
If carrying around outerwear all day is a hard pass for you, consider wearing a trench dress instead—same look, minus the extra layer.
Now you’re all set to survive a little summer storm.
