What Not to Wear to Yoga

The New Year is just around the corner, so there's no better time than now to set some new, fresh intentions to carry with you into 2019. One thing to add to your list, if it's not already? Signing up for a yoga class. Not only is it a great workout, but you'll also feel relaxed and rejuvenated after the hour-long session.
But there are some things to keep in mind prior to entering the classroom. There are items you should always pack in your gym bag, and then there are other things to always leave at home. This time, we're honing in on what not to wear to yoga, highlighting why said item is best kept out of the yoga studio. What's more, we've also added in what to replace the piece with and why it's a better pick. Read on for our yoga guide.
Skip: Loose shorts
Pick: Leggings
It's best to avoid wearing short-shorts or ones that are super loose. When doing yoga, you want to make sure you're free and able to move without any worries—and that's why a pair of fitted leggings in a sweat-wicking material is your best bet.
Shop it:
Skip: Loose shirts
Pick: A fitted tank top
Just as loose shorts can interfere with your workout, so can an oversized, loose-fitting shirt. It can bunch up and even cover your face, especially when doing the Down Dog pose. Instead, pick a fitted, sweat-wicking tank top instead.
Shop it:
Skip: Your everyday bra
Pick: A sports bra
This is a rule to follow, regardless of what work out you're doing at the gym. A sports bra offers much more hold and support than your usual everyday bra, and it won't get sweaty or stinky as fast.
Skip: Sneakers
Pick: Yoga socks
Sneakers prevent your feet from grasping on to the yoga mat, so your best bet is to either go at it barefoot or invest in a pair of non-slip yoga socks.
Next up, what to gift your yoga-loving friend.
