Wait, Can You Guess If These Pieces Are Vintage or New?
“Fashion is reactive, so when skinny jeans go out, flares come back in,” Jeremy Valentine, style sleuth and co-founder of Melbourne vintage institution Shag mentioned in a previous article for Who What Wear Australia. In a world where fast-fashion rules, vintage pieces can be the unexpected pieces your wardrobe is missing, but the problem is, they're also harder to come by. Plus, you need the patience to scour through second hand stores to find them. With the likes of brands such as Re/Done, where vintage Levi jeans for example are re-worked and tailored into a new pair, the lines between vintage and brand new have been blurred. And we see this as the best thing to happen to the retail market.
While some say a plain white tee, cashmere sweater, and black trousers are a solid base, so too are vintage classics like a faux fur coat, or straight-fit jeans. Right now, we're seeing a trend towards brands creating new pieces with a vintage, and ‘worn in’ feel, and it's saving us from having to trawl through op-shops and search for these pieces in person.
Keep scrolling to shop the new pieces on our radar, that look and feel vintage.
Leopard Fur Coat
Whether you're a lover or hater of bold prints, a classic leopard print faux fur coat will always be in style. No matter your age, this piece will forever slip easily into your wardrobe. The fur coat featured in H&M's collaboration with Erdem proved to be a hit, with the style selling out instantly.

Patent Croc Leather
There's nothing quite as timeless than patent mock-crocodile leather. Whether its a bag or a pair of shoes, this embossed leather gets a timeless stamp of approval. The bag below, which we found at H&M feels like vintage, without having to trawl through op-shops.

Vintage Band Shirt
The vintage band tee shirt is so versatile to wear, even if it doesn't feel like it immediately fits into your personal style. If your wardrobe leans towards a more feminine vibe, pair the boyish T-shirt with printed bottoms.

Denim
If it's one thing every woman should own, its a great pair of jeans. A light wash is what everyone wants to wear, likely due to its vintage feel. Shop the re-worked range from Re/Done for a truly authentic pair you'll have for years to come, or visit the brands 'Originals' section, for brand new denims that are created with a vintage feel.
