Fig Girl Fall Is Officially Upon Us: This Is How to Master the Jammy Trend, From Scent to Skin
It's juicy, sweet, and full of benefits.
Six months ago, I began eating seasonally, and now, my beauty routine reflects everything on my plate. Throughout the summer, for example, I was all about experimenting with citrus-inspired cocktails and exploring yellow- and orange-toned manicures, and up until now, pumpkin has been dominating both my diet and shower routine. While I definitely planned for a natural progression toward incorporating figs into my beauty routine, I could have never predicted that I would see fig-based skincare, fragrance, and makeup finds suddenly populating my FYP in October, which was long before I began searching for something new to add to my lineup.
Hundreds of screenshots and TikTok saves later, I've finally landed on the 21 fig beauty products from brands such as Diptyque, Salt Stone, Elemis, and Victoria Beckham Beauty that I'll be shopping until further notice.
Perfume
Scent Type: Warm florals
Notes: Fig leaf, lotus flower, vetiver, neroli
This Jo Malone London fragrance draws its inspiration from the luscious figs and lotus flowers found in the ancient Hanging Gardens. It scents the skin with juicy fig, delicate lotus flower, earthy vetiver, and bright neroli. Lightly floral with green tendencies, this is one of the most versatile and realistic fig-leaf scents I've come across to date.
Scent Type: Aromatic woods
Notes: Fig leaves, fig tree sap, black pepper
While some fig fragrances present woody, green facets, others explore their fresh and milky side. Diptyque's Philosykos blends the freshness of leaves, sun-soaked bark, sweet tree sap, and lively black pepper. As much as I associate this perfume with the cooler months, it's also stunning in the spring and summer. Plus, the art that decorates its bottle is particularly eye-catching with an etched fig tree grove and the sea behind it.
Scent Type: Fruity floral
Notes: Black currant bud absolute, fig accord, bergamot, geranium essence, rose petal Isparta, jasmine sambac absolute, vetiver essence, cashmeran, musk
The honeyed sweetness of fig is front and center in YSL's Lavallière Eau de Parfum. The fleshy fruit is underscored by green, woody notes before revealing radiant damascena rose and rose water. While it opens with bright notes, the dry-down introduces an inviting warmth that layers beautifully with earthy fragrances.
Scent Type: Aromatic fruit
Notes: Bergamot, green leaf, pear stem, fig, coconut milk, iris, blond woods, tonka bean, moss
Ripe fig is at the heart of this perfume, but the iris, bergamot, and coconut milk are what set it apart. There's a familiar feeling here, which makes sense since this fragrance was inspired by music, young romance, and August humidity. The unique composition also features Haitian vetiver and lime oil for freshness.
Scent Type: Citrus floral
Notes: Bergamot, fig leaf, petitgrain, fig accord, neroli, rose, cedar, vetiver, tonka bean
Inspired by Calabria, Italy, Guerlain's floral-citrus fragrance combines a burst of bergamot with smooth fig accord. We're then introduced to creamy neroli, warm vetiver, and cozy almond. This one is also refillable and made with 95% natural-origin ingredients, including sustainable beetroot alcohol. It's a trip to the sun-baked Italian coast in a bottle.
Scent Type: Woody fruit
Notes: Gorse, peach, fig leaves, dried fruits, almond milk, fig, coconut milk, pine needles, sandalwood, fig wood
Premier Figuier's enchanting aromatic fig scent was envisioned by perfumer Olivia Giacobetti while sitting beneath a fragrant fig tree in southern France. Boasting a blend of fig leaves, fruit, and wood, it's accented by sticky and sweet peach, coconut milk, and creamy sandalwood. Its sillage is also impressive, lasting for eight hours on my skin and clothes.
Home Fragrance
Scent Type: Green woods
Notes: Fig leaves, green facets
I've had this fruity, fresh fragrance in every apartment I've lived in and keep it stocked up for surprise company. The Fig Tree candle offers a cool, powdery composition inspired by the 700 fig trees planted in Louis XIV's gardens in Versailles. Its silky, clear fig-leaf notes are intwined with radiant green facets that evoke images of fresh foliage. It's housed in a chic white vessel and offers between 40 to 50 hours of burn time.
Scent Type: Warm woods
Notes: Black fig, coconut milk, ivy leaves, violet, white jasmine, basil, tonka bean, orris root, white musk
Made with coconut and soy waxes, Salt Stone's Fig Violet Candle brings on the Mediterranean sun, ocean waves, and fig trees with a warm, verdant blend of ripe fruit, sweet florals, and warm blooms. It opens with black fig and creamy coconut milk. Its heart is defined by crisp ivy balanced by powdery violet and white jasmine against a warm, earthy heart.
Scent Type: Fruity wood
Notes: Fig wood, fig leaves, fig sap
I can't gush about fig home fragrances without mentioning this Diptyque favorite. It intensifies the scent of warm bark, fresh leaves, and milky sap and is inspired by the fig leaves found in the Mediterranean. Yes, the fragrance opens with a burst of green but slowly shifts into a delicate, fruity-floral profile. I love that this elegant candle gives 60 hours of burn time.
Scent Type: Aromatic citrus
Notes: Lemon, myrtle, thyme, cedarwood, black fig, lavender, pine, cashmere wood, musk, patchouli
If you love fig home fragrances with a splash of energizing citrus, get your hands on Trudon's Cyrnos Classic Candle. Inspired by the aromatic citrus garden of a sunny Cyrnos villa, the candle combines bright citrus with the dry, cool notes of myrtle, thyme, and cedarwood. The black fig at its heart is echoed by whispers of lavender and pine before being finished off with warm, woody notes.
Scent Type: Fruity wood
Notes: Fig, black currant, amber, musk
Le Labo is one of my go-to brands for musky-yet-elegant home fragrances that can elevate any space. The Figue 15 Candle isn't a traditional fig scent. It blends the woody and fruity note with black currant and a dash of amber for a mouthwatering, musky finish. It's formulated with a high does of fragrance oils and uses a custom blend of waxes and natural-fiber wicks to deliver up to 60 hours of burn time.
Skincare
This best-selling cleanser is a rich balm that melts into a luxurious oil when massaged into the skin before transforming into a hydrating milk on contact with water. Its decadent formula sweeps away makeup, grime, and surface pollutants. It's packed with a trio of nourishing plant oils and leaves the skin lightly scented with a blend of ripe green notes (fig, raspberry, and bergamot).
Want another easy way to revive dull-looking skin in a single step? Here's a serum cream by Superegg that does this with a light and versatile formula. This one is infused with panthenol, squalane, and essential fatty acids that improve moisture retention, and collagen-boosting peptides keep skin toned and smooth. The formula also includes botanical extracts, such as fig fruit, to boost skin-barrier function.
Apart from smelling and tasting delicious, figs can slow signs of aging in the skin, improve elasticity, reduce redness, and soothe irritation while promoting a healthy, glowing complexion. These sheet masks are infused with almost an ounce of serum that features fig-fruit extract, pomegranate-fruit extract, and citrus-fruit extract to exfoliate and brighten your skin.
If you haven't considered adding a toning lotion to your skincare routine, take this as your sign to invest in one that can hydrate and balance the skin barrier. This one by Clarins deeply nourishes the skin with organic fig extract and aloe vera as well as chlorella extract, kelp extract, and saffron-flower polyphenols. I'm in love with its scent, a floral-citrus blend of vetiver, rose, leather, orange, and woods.
Breathe new life into stressed skin with this hydrating and moisturizing Dr. Brandt must-have. Powered by the brand's proprietary Energlow Complex (a nourishing blend of adaptogens, lipopeptides, and Mediterranean fig stem cells), it revitalizes dull-looking skin while boosting glow and minimizing signs of irritation. I'm also a huge fan of its lightweight and fast-absorbing gel texture.
Makeup
Formulated with oils and waxes, this is a creamy, easy-to-blend lip, cheek, and eye color that provides a natural-looking flush wherever it's placed using skin-loving, organic ingredients like sweet almond oil, apricot-kernel oil, beeswax, carnauba wax, and castor-seed oil. The color that'll add a warm and earthy, fig-inspired flair to your makeup is Pacaya, a berry brown with neutral undertones that looks picturesque on many skin tones.
The Rock 'N' Kohl Eyeliner is offered in six matte and metallic shades, but I'm most excited about Fig Smolder, an royal purple. Its highly pigmented and ultra-creamy formula offers waterproof and smudge-proof wear without skipping or dragging across your eyelids. The double-ended design includes the pencil on one side and an easy-to-use smudge tip on the other.
Designed to add a luminous finish to your cheeks, lips, and eyes, this unique cream blush and highlighter by Isamaya delivers glow while boosting hydration and radiance. Its solid-to-cream formula uses a specialist phytocomplex to smooth the skin, and a lanolin-like film former keeps the complexion hydrated and plump. Craving your fig fix? There's a shade for that.
You can never have too many luxe, fig-inspired eyeliners in your collection, and Victoria Beckham Beauty's Satin Kajal Liner in Fig (a matte aubergine) is one of the best options out there. This TikTok-viral eyeliner delivers striking eye definition and long-lasting wear with eye-catching pigment and a creamy, blendable formula that won't smudge or flake.
I've praised this treatment for restoring my dry lips in the past, so you can imagine my excitement when I discovered that it's offered in a gorgeous fig purple. A single application locks in hydrations and improves the color, softness, and smoothness of lips with moisturizing shea butter, salicylic acid, peptides, and ceramides for a 3D cushion effect.
