This last year has really been the year of trendy basics. Between lots of lounging around and a desire to dress more casually in and out of the house, basics have taken on a whole new level of importance. Of course, being the style-minded people we are, we not just going to wear any old basic clothing item. It's going to be a slightly cooler, more updated version, and today, I'm adding one more of these trendy basics to my list of favorites: crew-neck sweatshirts.

I've been loving the style, which feels fresher than your average hoodie, and fashion people have taken a liking to them, too. All over my feed, I'm seeing loads of outfits with sweatshirts that make the formerly boring basic look anything but. Whether they're throwing one on with leggings, styling it with loose jeans and sneakers, or creating a full look with matching sweatpants, it's working. Continue on to see some of these 'fits so you can understand exactly where my obsession stems from and to shop my favorite crew-necks.

Normally leggings and a sweatshirt aren't the most forward look, but the boxy blazer and baseball cap add so much style.

Add in this combo consisting of an oversize crew-neck, loose ripped jeans, and gold jewelry to your outfit rotation for casual days.

The prep-school aesthetic is trending hard right now, and a logo crew-neck is a key way to get in on the look. Wear yours with a pleated miniskirt and loafers like Emma Chamberlain did here.

Wear yours with loose jeans, sneakers, and plenty of gold jewelry for a Hailey Bieber inspired vibe.

As you can see here, oversize crew-necks were basically made for leggings and sneakers. Adding tall socks gives it a '90s spin.

Another fashion-girl way to add style to the basic? Layer it over a collared shirt.

Layer a blazer over a crew-neck sweatshirt for a very '90s, Princess Diana inspired feel. A baseball cap adds to the retro appeal.

There's nothing easier than throwing on matching sweatpants to your crew-neck for one cohesive loungewear look.

Opt for a fun graphic crew-neck over a plain sweater for a cool, sporty feel.

A long wool coat adds polish to a simple leggings-and-sweatshirt combo.
