Everyone With Good Taste in New York and Paris Is Wearing This One Fall Jacket Trend
Everywhere we look, the pieces in our wardrobes are getting more lively, whimsical, and all-around fun. Maximalism and texture have had a huge resurgence this fall/winter season, thanks in part to designers from Bottega Veneta to The Row who showcased free-flowing details like feathers and fringe in their most recent collections. Speaking of, fringe jackets have emerged as a key jacket trend for fall 2025, and it's unquestionably one of the easiest ways to take on the fringe trend.
We’ve spotted the Western-inspired silhouette on the coolest people in cities like New York and Paris where all the fashion girls tend to test-drive new trends before anyone else. This season, they're prioritizing them over moto jackets and even current bomber styles. While researching the best fringe jackets for this story, there was one specific style that kept popping up on all my favorite fashion people: the Polo Ralph Lauren Fringe Leather Jacket, a beautiful cropped fit in a creamy beige hue.
Over the weekend, I stopped into the Polo store in SoHo to try on the jacket for myself and see what all the hype was about and as soon as I slipped it on over my shoulders, I knew I was in dangerous territory: I didn't want to take it off. I think I walked around the store for a good thirty minutes admiring it and imagining how good it would look with different pieces in my wardrobe. While many of the fringe jackets on the market right now are more boxy and oversized, this style has a closer fit that offsets the drama of the fringe and lends a much more elegant feel to the Western theme. I think it looks especially chic buttoned all the way up and worn as a top.
"My Ralph Lauren fringe jacket is one of those rare pieces that anchors my wardrobe year after year," Julia Rabinowitsch of The Millennial Decorator told me. "When I bought it, I tracked down the very last one in the company—so it already feels like a forever piece. It’s endlessly versatile, and without fail, someone stops me every time I wear it. This winter, I’m excited to layer it with my staples: a Ralph Lauren cashmere cable-knit and a vintage Levi’s. While the fringe itself is a moment, I love pairing this specific jacket with a fun belt or just keeping it more simplified with a piece like a white a-line skirt."
