On the Hunt—My Top Picks for Matching Sweats, Sustainable Jewelry, and More
Welcome to On the Hunt, a monthly series in which we open the floor (or should we say DMs?) to our Instagram followers to ask their most burning fashion and beauty questions. We'll select up to five inquiries to answer and offer our advice with shopping picks to match.
Each day it's becoming clearer how much my shopping habits are shifting. It's not only the items I'm purchasing that have been different lately (mainly basics, loungewear, and affordable trends, as opposed to my usual denim and accessory splurges) but also where I'm shopping. I wasn't surprised to see that your shopping requests (according to our Instagram DMs anyway) were a bit different this month, too. You're shopping smarter in terms of price point, and a lot of you are also interested in supporting small businesses, which I personally have been trying to do as well. While there were so many shopping requests I wanted to answer, these five were the most frequently asked.
With so many people spending the majority of their time at home right now, comfy clothes are naturally at the top of shopping lists. There are so many matching loungewear sets available right now in fun colors, neutrals, and prints to boot. While your sweats don't have to coordinate, I know I feel a little more put-together when mine do.
This long-sleeve top plus the biker shorts are a match made in tie-dye heaven.
This cool sweatshirt is almost too chic to even be considered loungewear, especially with the matching pants. And who needs a hood when you can have a collar?
Wait till you see the matching cargo-style joggers.
This velour sweatsuit gives me '90s vibes. Shop the matching pants here.
This collab immediately caught my attention. I particularly like the rich tan color of this cropped sweatshirt and jogger set.
It truly made my heart happy to see how many of you asked about what small businesses you can support right now. There are so many that are still shipping products right now, but even for the ones that are not, you can purchase gift cards you'll use in the future.
This padded muscle tee from Frankie Shop has quickly become a favorite of pretty much everyone I follow on Instagram (as seen above). The olive color is still available, too.
It's times like these when I'm especially grateful so many of my favorite NY stores have online shops as well. Pêche, located in Brooklyn, makes affordable and always on-trend accessories, like these cinched ballerina flats.
This L.A. brand is my go-to for elevated basics, like this high neck ribbed tank.
Put this Australian brand on your radar ASAP. Its designs are luxe and effortless at the same time.
Who What Wear editors love this small L.A.-based brand that donates a portion of its proceeds to a different charity each season. It just launched this waffle sweatshirt in a bunch of fresh colors for spring, with matching shorts of course.
More and more jewelry brands with sustainability and eco-friendly missions are popping up these days. It feels good buying something you love, knowing that it supports a good cause, whether it's related to the environment or fair labor. All of these brands below also fall into the small-business category, so shopping from them is really a win-win.
I've been a fan of this German brand ever since seashell jewelry became a huge trend last spring. They primarily employ women, specifically elderly women, and source all of their shells and coral from local biologists to ensure nothing they use is on the protected-species list.
Influencer- and editor-favorite brand Laura Lombardi uses raw and recycled materials, so you can feel good about purchasing one of its gorgeous designs. This chain collar is at the top of my wish list.
If these Susan Alexandra earrings don't put a smile on your face, I don't know what will. The company makes every piece by hand in New York, creating domestic jobs with fair wages.
Catbird bracelets are perfect for everyday wear, and they also make thoughtful and practical gifts. They're a NY-based brand that prides itself on using recycled gold and conflict-free stones.
Every piece from NST Studio, like these misshapen pearl-hoop earrings, is made to order. That not only makes the items feel extra special but also ensures there's less material waste from the production process.
The designer-resale market has surged in the last several years, and there are truly so many amazing options available. I can almost guarantee that these five trendy bags won't last long.
The mini-bag trend is still going strong, meaning this little Louis Vuitton one is the perfect investment item.
This pink bag makes me excited for summer. It's also typically priced three times higher.
I'm always on the hunt for new tops that elevate my everyday denim outfits, from basic tees to long-sleeve blouses to trendier options. Shop some of my current faves here that are ideal for springtime.
It's hard to beat the price point of this trendy puff-sleeve top.
