Gen Zers and Millennials Agree This Throwback Hair Accessory Is *Still* It
Every morning, I dedicate a few minutes to standing in front of the mirror and playing with my hair before jumping to the next step in my routine. This process often involves deciding if I'd like to wear it up, down, or pulled back to give my makeup the spotlight for the day. The accessory I use to accomplish half of these styles, however, has remained the same over the past couple of years: a trusty claw clip I leave secured precariously at the base of my standing makeup mirror for a fuss-free, yet finished, look.
That's not to say I haven't had my share of failed investments that resulted in loose springs, stray strands wrapping themselves way too easily around the teeth, or an entire clip snapping closed without warning. We’ve all been there. Luckily, I've been able to sort through the good and the bad to identify a few elite claw clips that rise above all others. Keep reading for my 19 beauty editor approved claw clips for every hair type and texture I swear by. Trust me—they’re truly the best of the best.
Best Overall
If you're looking for a clip that will keep your hair in place all day without discomfort or having to readjust, Then this oversize, fashion-forward claw clip by The Hair Edit is a must-have. Ideal for updos, half-up styles, and more; it offers support for all hair types and textures.
"I have very thick, slightly wavy hair. I have never had a hair clip that holds all my hair up for the whole day until now. Other clips I have to constantly adjust, even when my hair is shorter, but this one holds up no problem even with my hair past shoulder length. Very happy with this purchase!" — Ulta Reviewer
Best For Thick Hair
To say I'm obsessed with Gimme Beauty's accessories would be an understatement. Their Thick Hair Claw Clips are designed to sit comfortably on the head to avoid tension and digging into the scalp for all-day comfort. Ideal for all hair types (but especially helpful for thicker strands), these hair clips are major game changers.
"The only claw clips I could find that actually keep my hair in place. I have tried many others
they give me headaches and pull my hair down making my scalp hurt… these stay put and I almost forget they're there! They're also pretty large so they hold a lot of hair!" — Target Reviewer
If you have thick hair, the general rule to go by is the bigger (and more springs there are), the better. Kitsch's eco-friendly jumbo claw clip is durable and made from recycled plastic; perfect for holding back thick hair. It also comes in a variety of colors and finishes to suit any aesthetic.
"I love this hair clip. When I wear pony tails or buns I tend to get headaches, so a clip seems like a great option. This is finally one large enough to hold my super thick hair. Really love it! Plus it's cute, and would go with nearly any outfit." — Amazon Reviewer

"I cannot recommend this clip enough. It totally grips your hair, and is so secure. Good weight without feeling like you're dragging dead weight on the back of your head. I will never go back to a plastic claw clip again." — Anthropologie Reviewer
Fine hair thrives with the right support from hair accessories like Nalodu's best-selling claw clips. Not only are they versatile and stylish, but they are crafted from a durable, heavy-duty plastic and feature a strong spring to make the clamp easy to open and close without snapping unexpectedly.
"This is my new favorite hair clip. I have thin hair and am wary of how clips can make a 'bald' spot where it grips the hair. These clips don't do that. They're shaped in a way that’s perfect." — Amazon Reviewer
