Mark My Words: DeMellier's Timeless, Designer-Passing Handbag Will Be the Next Cult Buy
A new bag has arrived at DeMellier, and we predict that the Florence tote will soon join the It list. Find out more about the woven-leather style here.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been keeping a secret, and at last I can spill all. As a shopping editor, I get insider insights into upcoming releases, and finally, it’s time to talk about DeMellier’s new handbag. True to form, it brings together practicality and polish in perfect harmony. Now, I’m pleased to introduce you to the Florence.
If there’s one brand that has proven its expertise in elegant bags, it’s DeMellier. You may already be well-acquainted with the capacious New York tote that features in so many wardrobes across the globe, or the celebrity-adored Hudson bag that frequently features on the likes of Emma Roberts and Catherine, the Princess of Wales. Now, the Florence is joining the stellar roster of DeMellier bags.
Whilst most woven leather bags have a slouchy form, the Florence is all about structure. Bringing a touch of poise to overpacking, the wide stripes of leather are carefully woven to keep the silhouette intact, whilst soft, supple leather allows the bag to nestle comfortably under the arm. For me, intricately woven bags come with a distinctly summery feel, but the wide weave of the Florence ensures that this is a bag you’ll reach for from the office to park picnics to strolls through town.

As a brand that is just as focused on the practicality of a bag as the look, I got my hands on the Florence to see what finer details this smart bag contains. First, there’s the zip closure to keep your essentials secure, as well as an internal pocket with two pouches for your smaller treasures. DeMellier always thinks of the wearer when creating its beloved bags, and it shows. The Florence has adjustable straps, a rarity on a tote silhouette, allowing the wearer to move between a longer option for over-the-shoulder wear and a shorter one when carrying in hand. The extra length of the handle neatly nestles inside, too, as every detail has been carefully considered. Currently, the Florence is available in smooth black and brown leather, as well as a deep brown and light taupe suede. Truly, the hard part is choosing which colourway to go for.
