6 Fall Outfit Formulas I'm Stealing From Zoë Kravitz

I'm not sure what it is about fall, but by mid-October, I often find myself in a style rut. It feels like everything I know about dressing well just slips my mind. While I may get a bit self-critical, I never panic because I know there are different ways to find inspiration and create outfits. My favorite method is to look at various celebrity street style outfits, especially those of Zoë Kravitz.
Kravitz hasn't always been my style muse. It began in 2022 when I started paying attention. Her long black dress at The Batman premiere and her white gown at the Met Gala caught my eye. Off the red carpet, I started admiring her "less is more" approach, focusing on elevated wardrobe essentials rather than chasing every micro-trend. Then in early 2025, when she began working with stylist Danielle Goldberg, she truly became a fashion icon for me.
I appreciate her confidence in her personal style—she knows what she likes and sticks to it, which, in my opinion, embodies true personal style. For example, she favors a satin-trimmed pencil skirt and jeans of all kinds, and when she's not in flat clogs, she's likely in pointed-toe pumps or open-toe sandals with sheer tights. While she often wears designers like The Row and Saint Laurent, her looks still feel like I can replicate them using pieces I already own. If you're looking for style inspiration like I am, keep scrolling to see six of my favorite fall outfits worn by Kravitz along with the pieces needed to re-create them.
Outfit 1
First, here's an easy-to-re-create denim-and-blazer outfit. What sets this look apart is the blazer's color. Instead of the traditional black, Kravitz chose a taupe blazer, which feels very fresh. I also love how she mismatched it with black heels instead of matching shoes. And we can't ignore the light-wash baggy jeans. Some fashion people are gravitating toward dark-rinse denim this fall, but that doesn't mean you should put away your light-wash jeans. There's always a time and place for them, even when temperatures drop into the 50s.

Kravitz casually threw on a long car coat, wide-leg trousers, lug-sole boots, and a slouchy shoulder bag and headed out the door. What she doesn't realize is that she has created a fall outfit formula that is wearable, attainable, and chic. The key to her look was the pairing of navy and chocolate brown—a color combination that might not first come to mind. Now, when you get dressed, it will.

Fashion people in New York City, like Kravitz, understand that an all-black outfit is a fail-safe choice because it always appears sleek and elegant. However, not every black look is the same. Case in point: this slip-skirt outfit. Kravitz could have chosen a classic little black dress, but pairing a satin midi skirt with a long tuxedo-style jacket, a cropped tee, sheer tights, and pumps makes an all-black ensemble feel more 2025.

This fall, if you're looking to invest in just one piece, let it be a stunning, well-made coat—a wardrobe staple that can become the outfit. Picture a design that layers beautifully over your favorite jeans and flowy dresses or even something you can wrap yourself in when walking your dog in sweatpants. Here, Kravitz has opted for a high-neck black wool coat, a style that is the epitome of versatility and timeless elegance.

Forget baggy and wide-leg jeans. Slim-fitting denim, especially in a black wash, is having a moment, and Kravitz is aware of this. In NYC, the actress was spotted heading to dinner dressed in black cigarette jeans paired with a mesh top, an oversize blazer, and pointed-toe slingbacks. The secret to modernizing this look and making the jeans feel fresh for 2025 rather than the early 2000s is combining them with an oversize jacket, a contrasting belt, and pointed-toe heels. A The Row bag helps too.

If you can't tell by now, Kravitz loves a silk pencil skirt in the fall—and for good reason. It's highly versatile, and it can be styled with a chunky sweater, blazer, or technical jacket, as seen here and on many other insiders this fall. The contrast between the sporty coat and the elegant skirt is unexpected, but that's what makes it look stylish.
