These Are the Leggings to Wear If You're NOT Going to the Gym

Is it acceptable to wear leggings as pants? It’s one of the major fashion debates out there. If you happen to be a fan of wearing them even when there’s no gym in sight, we came across some genius pointers to keep in mind. The Wall Street Journal took an in-depth look at the acceptance of leggings in high fashion, explaining how labels like The Row and Céline have reinvented them with a sophisticated twist. WSJ tapped the fashion director of Amazon Fashion, Gina Tovar, to offer her take on how to choose the right leggings when you’re not headed to a workout.

If you’re wearing leggings as a style statement, she recommended options in faux leather, smooth but sturdy ponte knit, or velvet,” WSJ wrote of Tovar’s suggestion. Why do we agree with her advice? These styles are more elevated than typical performance leggings and would pair better with non-gym pieces like ankle boots and leather jackets. Head over to WSJ to learn more about the state of leggings in the industry.

Erin got her start as aBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
