Revealed: The 2019 Met Gala Theme Everyone Will Be Talking About
Ask any fashion person about the most highly anticipated event of the year, and the Met Gala is likely to top everyone's list. So, what do Anna Wintour and company have up their sleeves for 2019? For starters, Vogue just revealed the four A-list co-chairs who will join Wintour for the event: Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Serena Williams, and Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele.
Vogue also revealed the theme of the exhibit: Camp: Notes on Fashion. Curator Andrew Bolton was inspired by the 1964 essay "Notes on Camp" by Susan Sontag, who described camp as the "love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration." Bolton elaborated on the theme to Vogue, explaining that camp "has become increasingly more mainstream in its pluralities—political camp, queer camp, Pop camp, the conflation of high and low, the idea that there is no such thing as originality."
It's safe to say the theme has huge shoes to fill considering Heavenly Bodies was the most visited Costume Institute display of all time, but we can't wait to see how the Met will top this year. In the meantime, scroll down to see how Gucci has interpreted the trend.
