There are two types of people in this world: those who are sad to say goodbye to summer and those who welcome autumn with open arms. I'm firmly in the latter camp. Maybe I'm biased because I have my late-September birthday to look forward to, but I can't wait to leave hot, sweaty days in the rearview mirror. If you agree, you're going to love this particular article.
As much as I love a breezy linen dress or pair of sandals, there's something about the first chill in the air that makes me excited to get dressed again. Autumn feels like fashion's true New Year—a fresh start for your wardrobe, where layering becomes interesting and textures take centre stage. For me, nothing signals the arrival of the season more than the return of denim, which is probably why my latest Instagram scroll stopped me in my tracks.
Two of my favourite Amsterdam-based influencers were both wearing the same autumn trend: baggy denim-on-denim. Also known as the Canadian tuxedo, this outfit combo certainly isn't new, but the silhouette is key here. Instead of fitted jackets or skinny jeans, both women opted for oversize, loosely fitting pieces that instantly gave the look a cool, modern edge. Think less 2000s pop star, more effortlessly chic creative director vibes.

And let's be honest—there's a practical element here too. After months of heatwave dressing, slipping into something roomy and relaxed feels like the ultimate luxury. Baggy denim not only looks polished when styled right, but it's also incredibly comfortable (a win-win situation if you ask me). It's the kind of outfit formula you can throw on for brunch, errands, or even a casual office day and still look put-together without trying too hard.
No, I'm not saying you need to retire your skinny jeans permanently—they'll always have a place in our wardrobes—but for right now, slouchy denim is the vibe. From boxy jackets to wide-leg jeans, the proportions are what make the look feel current. Add in your favourite trainers or boots and maybe a sleek shoulder bag, and suddenly, your autumn uniform has arrived.
