The impact that the right handbag has on an outfit is undeniable, and when it comes to iconic styles, there are a few characteristics that turn a bag into an It bag.
First, of course, the brand brings instant recognisability along with the promise of quality and craftspersonship. Think Bottega Veneta, The Row and Celine, for example. Then we have the actual silhouette, fabric, details and colourways of a bag that makes it truly special, as with the Hermès Birkin and Saint Laurent's Le 5 à 7). One attribute that often isn't considered is how well loved a bag is by a particular celebrity. Once a handbag is spotted multiple times on a stylish celeb, it’s almost guaranteed to solidify itself as the next It bag in the months to follow.
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve spotted a select number of styles, both new and old, being carried by what I consider to be some of the most fashionable celebrities, all of which I’m predicting will be the most covetable bags to invest in for 2025 and beyond. However, whilst they're on the rise for spring 2025, I can guarantee that none of these handbags will feel outdated over the next few seasons or even in years to come. Unlike other clothing and accessories, handbag trends tend to move much slower and are, therefore, worthy investments that will remain relevant for a long time after their initial purchase.

1. Bottega Veneta Ciao Ciao
Style Notes: Bottega's Ciao Ciao only launched last month, but is already making noise amongst celebs and fashion people alike. Available in two sizes and a range of wearable shades, the Ciao Ciao’s smooth leather finish makes it the perfect style for those who love the shape and function of the Andiamo but are looking for a more pared-back take. The black, cream and brown hues are timeless, and the pastel pink and fresh green are perfect for spring, but Naomi Ackie's chic burgundy iteration (pictured above) strikes the perfect balance between classic and modern.

2. Celine Camille 16 Soft
Style Notes: Celine is known amongst elegant dressers as the go-to name for subtle yet impactful designs that are sure to turn heads, and the Camille 16 Soft bag is no different. From the spacious silhouette that makes it ideal for every day to the lack of obvious logos that ensures its versatility and timelessness, this is a bag made by minimalists for minimalists. Phoebe Dynevor opted for the classic black hue (pictured above), but you genuinely can't go wrong with any of the shades.

In fact, we were seeing it so often that we decided we needed to try it out for ourselves, and trust me when I say that it does not disappoint. Made from soft and supple leather and roomy enough to fit all your everyday, office and even travel essentials, this is primed to become one of the most coveted designer totes.

Style Notes: 2024 was the year of quiet luxury and minimalism, but I'm predicting that 2025 will bring boho fashion to the fore once again. From the luxe suede we've been seeing on everything from trenches to loafers, studded belts and fringe detailing, the free-spirited aesthetic is set to make a comeback. There aren't many celebs who do boho better than Alexa Chung, whose unique style consistently influences fashion people. Once I spotted her in Valentino's boho-inspired Nellcôte bag, I knew this would be a sell-out style for spring and beyond.

Style Notes: Beauty and utility combined, Dior's D-Journey is arguably the most versatile in the brand's collection. It's spacious and functional, making it ideal for everyday use, but its sleek and compact design means it could just as easily be worn to a dinner or evening event. I'd wear this dreamy style on my shoulder, however, I equally love how Elsa Hosk has adjusted the strap to turn it into a hands-free crossbody bag (pictured above), proving just how practical it is.

6. Gucci Horsebit 1955
Style Notes: The Gucci Horsebit 1955 clearly isn't a new bag, with its popularity spanning over 70 years. But that doesn't mean it won't continue to reign as one of the most coveted bags in 2025. In fact, at Gucci's FW25 runway show the iconic style was re-invented in the beautiful suede green shade (shown on Yara Shahidi) above to celebrate the bag's 70th anniversary. Although this version isn't yet available, there are still many different colours and patterns you can buy right now.

7. Hermès Birkin
Style Notes: Arguably the most coveted and undeniably the most popular handbag ever, the Birkin is going nowhere in 2025. The iconic bag has been lusted after by celebrities, fashion people and just about everyone since it launched in 1984. A symbol of wealth and status, it's no surprise that this style is still being spotted on celebrities, including Kendall Jenner, who was recently seen with an elevated suede iteration that feels fresh for 2025. Birkins are notoriously hard to get your hands on, so shopping on pre-loved sites like Vestiaire is your best bet for getting your hands on one.

8. Saint Laurent Le 5 à 7 Shoulder Bag
Style Notes: Shoulder bags have been trending majorly since 2024, and Saint Laurent's Le 5 à 7 is one of the most sought-after styles on the market right now. Originally launching in 2021, the bag was inspired by the 1962 French film Cleo From 5 to 7 and exudes '60s glamour. From the gold logo hardware to the stylish elongated shape, celebs from Taylor Swift to Laura Harrier have proven this bag is the perfect evening accessory.

Style Notes: When it comes to The Row, the Margaux is undeniably the most popular style amongst celebs.
