If you were to ask any tasteful dresser about their most well-worn and well-adored items, you might be surprised to hear that a satin skirt is amongst their highest-rotation pieces. Fluid, breezy and effortless, they provide a languid sophistication that rivals the structure and tomboyishness of jeans or the refinement and ease of tailored trousers.
“Satin skirts have a duality that I have always appreciated, polished yet effortless,” explains Lili Chemla, the founder of Los Angeles-based ready-to-wear brand, Leset. The label is revered for its commitment to elevated wardrobe essentials, crafting everything from the ideal best white T-shirt, fitted cardigan, sculpting mini dress and (you guessed it), the best satin skirts. “It’s a stylistic anchor in any outfit,” she continues before acknowledging that regardless of what you team the piece with, you will always “look put together without ever feeling overdressed”.
It’s this reason why it’s become such a reliable staple for many. But none more so than chic Parisian women who always seamlessly balance simplicity and sensuality. As the fabric is designed to skim the body, the piece is inherently romantic and soft. These qualities bring a graceful note to anything you team it with, from slouchy ribbed tank tops to matching satin blouses. French girls are undoubtedly chic, and after seeing many a stylish savant trot around Le Marais on a recent visit, I was quite enamoured with the piece.
Then one of my colleagues reminded me that I wasn’t alone in being drawn to the style, as she pointed out how Kendall Jenner also slipped into a satin skirt upon an excursion to the City of Lights. Wearing head-to-toe The Row, the model and mogul stepped out wearing a champagne coloured style that grazed her ankles with a cropped baby tee, black flip-flops and the luxuriate’s covetable Margaux bag in a chic forest green.
Of course, it’s not just the setting that adds to the appeal. (Though it certainly does help!) Speaking to Chemla about the satin skirts in her collections, she explains that she’s drawn to the styles for the same reasons I am: unfussiness and vintage-inspired. “I kept coming back to the idea of softness meeting intention,” she said of the inspiration behind the design “Think: Vintage editorial references from the ’90s, clean lines and minimal silhouettes.”
And so began my quest to hunt down the best satin skirts. I personally haven’t owned one since sadly parting ways with the cult-favourite leopard-print midi skirt from Réalisation Par back in the late 2010s. A lot of things have changed since then, from the quality of fabrics to the style’s availability on the market, so I threw down the gauntlet and took to changing room after changing room in an attempt to weigh up which satin skirts were actually worth the investment. Trying on best-selling styles from Reformation, Aligne, Khaite and more, uncover the genuine best satin skirts currently available below.
The 12 Best Satin Skirts, Tried and Tested by a Fashion Writer

- The Best High-Street Satin Skirt: Zara Lace Trim Satin Midi Skirt, £30
- The Best Designer Satin Skirt: Khaite Demi Satin Midi Skirt, £1310
- The Best Lace-Trim Satin Skirt: Reformation Carolina Silk Skirt, £218

1. Aligne Ari Lace Satin Slip Skirt
Style Notes: After spotting Katie Holmes wearing the cognac-coloured version of this set whilst out in New York a few weeks ago, I knew my quest for the best satin skirt would have to start here. Honestly, I think it could’ve also ended here, too, as this piece is an incredible contender. The slip style features a juxtaposing trim that Aligne creative director Ginny Seymour tells me arose from her interest in contrasts.
“I wanted the softness and fluidity of satin but framed it with something a little more unexpected, which is where the placement lace came in,” she explains. “The references ranged from ’90s slip silhouettes to vintage lingerie trims. There were Parisian elements for sure, but also that slightly undone London sensibility we’re known for at Aligne.” I simply adore wearing it as a set, as it feels like a subtle homage to the underwear as outerwear trend. (Albeit at a more appropriate level.)
Two major caveats, however. It fits true to size but does run slightly longer, so petite women make note! (I’m 5”5’ and found myself wishing it was an inch or two shorter.) It also crinkles ridiculously easily. Now, this comes down to the very nature of satin as a fabric, but I did find that after only a few hours of sitting, it was creased all through the front. This might not be an issue for some, but as someone who despises wearing linen for this precise reason, you might be deterred from investing in something you’ll have to regularly iron.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: Photographs of women on the move—"effortless and confident"—also inspired this modern silhouette, says Seymour.
Colours: Two; cognac and navy.
Sizes: UK 4 - 22.
Material: 61% Ecovero Lenzing Viscose 39% Viscose.
Pros
- Comes A-lister and editor-approved.
Cons
- Wrinkles easily.
2. The White Company Double Satin Appliqué Lace Skirt
Style Notes: Now, beginning my quest for the best satin skirts always starts in the same way I'd approach making any purchase, and that's by consulting the experts. Turning to Who What Wear acting fashion editor, Sophie Robyn Watson, for recommendations, she sang the praises of this The White Company style so highly I couldn't help but include it. "A satin skirt is a sure way to give your outfit a little bit of luxe appeal," she says.
"Enter: This chocolate brown beauty from The White Company. With a soft sheen, black lace trim and drawstring waist tie, plus a premium weight, it feels gentle on the skin and so easy to wear from day to night. I pair mine with chunky knits, alpaca socks and pony hair sneakers to tap into the cosy feeling of the winter season, but switch things up with kitten heels for evening events. I took it in a medium, which feels spot on for my size 10-12 frame."
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: Forever the stringent stylist, Sophie reminds me to consider the sort of underwear you're wearing with satin skirts, as some styles might show off the lines of your knickers.
Colours: One, dark chocolate.
Sizes: XS - L.
Material: 100% polyester.
Pros
- Soft sheen with a thick fabric and premium lace trim.
Cons
- Some, like Sophie, may find they have to wear shapewear for the sake of the silhouette
3. Reformation Carolina Skirt
Style Notes: Sweet, Carolina. After noticing this Reformation skirt all over my feed, I knew I’d immediately be featuring the style in my edit. Not just because of the style’s virality and appeal, but because of how premium it looks both in the brand’s e-commerce shots and on my FYP. This style is made from 100% silk, so it is already far superior in quality to other pieces I tried on. But, because of the delicate material, it did feel quite lightweight in comparison to other heavy-duty and durable pieces. This is a style that can see you through the year with some clever styling, like pairing it with a chunky jumper, pendant necklace and knee-high boots as Reformation has done below. Still, I do think it’s considerably more suited to balmy climates. The fabric was incredibly soft on my skin, and I’m already picturing wearing it come spring in one of the brand’s trendier and seasonal shades.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: Truly luxurious, this is a piece that you'll wear all year round, just swap out the knitwear for a flirty blouse and throw on some sandals instead of these sleek boots.
Colours: Three core and seven seasonal.
Sizes: XS - XL.
Material: 100% silk.
Pros
- This style is offered in a plethora of colours, including three core shades (almond, black and black bean), and seven seasonal iterations (including polka dot, cherry blossom and cornflower.)
Cons
- Unlike some of Reformation's other pieces, this style is not offered in an extended size range.
4. Mango Satin Lace Skirt
Style Notes: Whenever I’m in need of good-quality basics at a more affordable price point, Mango is typically the first place I’ll turn. Whilst this style does lack the delicate draping and glossy sheen that more expensive styles boast, it truly does the job and does it well, making it a reliable piece of clothing that will only decrease in cost per wear. It’s an unfussy and straightforward style that will still make you appear incredibly classy, so if you’re looking to expand your wardrobe for 2026 and beyond, I’d make a case for this style to be thrown in the mix. My one note is, again, the length. I find knee-length skirts hard to style with certain shoes, so I do think this is a piece that would benefit from being worn with a heel. Be it a soft block heel on a ballet pump or a sharper razor-point style on a boot, anything slightly flat will, unfortunately, make your legs look slightly truncated.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: With an adjustable, elasticated waistband, this style allows you to easily slip in and out of for effortless wear.
Colours: Two; Black and Brown.
Sizes: XS - XL.
Material: 97% polyester, 3% elastane.
5. DISSH Charli Satin Maxi Skirt
Style Notes: As a London-based fashion writer who was born in Sydney, I take great pride when brands that were founded on home soil make a name for themselves on the international stage. DISSH is one such label. Located on Queensland’s tranquil coastline, DISSH is revered for their relaxed cuts and refined silhouettes, which inject a sense of casual lightness into this tough sartorial landscape. These are pieces that are true complement earners, and the way this style skims your body will have you inundated with them. A true mid-rise, this style sweeps the floor but fits like a true mermaid silhouette in the sense that it contours to your limbs before flaring out slightly close to the hem. The fabric has a slight crinkle to it, which means you don’t have to be so precious about steaming. It’s cut on the bias, so it drapes really lovely across your frame, but I did find it bunching and protruding slightly around my hip bones. It's also one of the brand's best-selling designs and pairs beautifully with other iconic creations, like silky camis and oversized blazers.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: This style fuses a coastal outlook with a city attitude, making it the perfect style to pair with oversized leather bomber jackets and sharp aviator-style sunglasses.
Colours: One; bitter chocolate.
Sizes: UK 6 - 16.
Material: 53% viscose, 47% rayon.
Pros
- This piece grazes the figure so beautifully.
Cons
- This style has very little stretch, which makes it difficult for those in between sizes.
6. Zara Asymmetric Lace Satin Skirt
Style Notes: High-street titan Zara is like a treasure trove, with pieces that can suit any need, budget or concern. Walking into the brand’s Oxford Street store, I was overwhelmed by just how many satin skirts were available. From asymmetrical shapes to floor grazers, there were truly too many to pick from. But any concern I had about spending hours in a changing room whittling down the best styles was immediately quelled when I saw this piece hanging on the rack. Not too dull, not too glistening, this sleek mocha-hued struck the perfect balance between affordability and expensive-looking. But for the price of an average meal out, this is a style that proves first impressions really can be everything.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: Features a high waist and elasticated waistband for a super easy fit.
Colours: Chocolate brown and black.
Sizes: XS - XXL
Material: 97% polyester, 3% elastane.
Pros
- Pairs perfectly with so many trending jacket styles, from funnel-necks to suede bombers.
Cons
- Whilst this style is offered in extended sizes, it has a bigger fit than usual which might make it slightly difficult to find the right fit.
7. Other Stories Satin Mini Skirt
Style Notes: When you think of a satin skirt, you typically think of the styles I’ve recommended above: romantic, calf-length and graceful. But as soon as I spied this Other Stories piece, I truly fell head over heels. It’s perfectly unconventional in the best way, making it a worthy contender for the ‘best satin skirt’ title. The satin is soft yet structured and tapers at the waist to create a really lovely silhouette. Darts that run down the front bring a tailored dimension to this mini and, because of this structured element, the fabric has this cowl accent that makes it feel incredibly light and chic.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: Make like a Parisienne and upgrade your miniskirts with a more decadent touch.
Colours: Two; beige and black.
Sizes: UK 32 - 44.
Material: Cotton 55%, Viscose 45%
Pros
- That price point is too good to resist.
Cons
- As much as I am a proponent for wearing tights as often as possible, this style doesn't really allow for year-round wear, even with the best thermal layers.
8. Reformation Marcia Skirt
Style Notes: If the double shirt or tank-top-over-long-sleeved-top trend is testament to anything, it’s that less certainly isn’t more. Adding an extra piece of fabric over the top of your base layer is a popular way to incorporate a more thoughtful and graphic touch to your outfit. Instead of figuring out how to do this yourself, the Reformation Marcia skirt takes the guesswork out of it. With a glint of ivory silk charmeuse that juts out from underneath a shining sheet of satin, this minimalistic shape is incredibly thoughtful and modern. All you need to elevate this further is a fine-knit V-neck jumper and a pair of sleek Mary Janes.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: The definition of a detail-oriented design.
Colours: Black and almond.
Sizes: UK 4 - 16.
Material: 100% lightweight silk charmeuse fabric.
Pros
- Two-in-one fashion is currently trending, but this takes it to the most sophisticated degree.
Cons
- This piece runs slightly oversized.
9. Khaite Demi Satin Midi Skirt
Style Notes: Of all the luxurious options on the market, Khaite’s decadent Demi style truly is the most opulent. I was drawn to this style like a moth to a flame, which is perhaps attributed to the style’s lustrous and luminous buttery fabric. Like most things created by award-winning designer Catherine Holstein, this style is quietly sexy. It’s both sensual and sculptural in the way that it hangs loose around the body, but features a darling slit that offers a glimpse of your leg as you walk. Perfect for city-dwellers who want something slightly more daring in their satin skirts.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: An understated silhouette that adds so much dimension and sultriness to a classic shape.
Colours: Pastel yellow and black.
Sizes: US 0 - 10.
Material: 60% acetate, 40% viscose
Pros
- Pair any scarf top or satin blouse with this style for the most decadent outfit.
Cons
- Incredibly expensive, but made up by the fact in the level of craftsmanship and material detail.
10. Massimo Dutti Satin Midi Skirt With Pockets
Style Notes: A skirt with pockets is always a welcome move, and Massimo Dutti has delivered an incredibly covetable iteration. The A-line shape makes this extremely floaty, meaning that it swishes gracefully with each step you take. Whilst the brand dubs it as midi length, I would argue that it’s more of a maxi style as it hits just at my ankle. The chocolate brown tone brings a warmth that offsets classic black cuts that you might already own. Plus, this style seems more considered for a busy life, as it features functional elements that factor in the needs of the wearer.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: An A-line skirt with practical details will be a welcome addition to any wardrobe.
Colours: Chocolate.
Sizes: UK 6 - 16.
Material: 100% Viscose
Pros
- Once again, I must draw your attention to the pockets!
Cons
- The material is super lightweight, so it's not the warmest maxi skirt on offer.
11. Whistles Ella Bias-Cut Satin Maxi Skirt
Style Notes: Whilst I had never actually tried on Whistles previously, I was impressed by the selection in store and the quality of the brand. This style features a band-like front that nips at your waist and cuts across your hips. It flares out slightly, which does make it feel a shade more matronly than other styles that are cut closer to the figure, but brilliant for modest dressers who enjoy the generous roominess that these types of pieces bring.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: Plum tones like aubergine and raspberry are an incredibly apt colour trend for 2026 and beyond.
Colours: Claret.
Sizes: UK 6 - 18.
Material: 100% viscose.
Pros
- A bias-cut style with a button fastening.
Cons
- The flare shape mightn't be to everyone's tastes.
12. Arket Lace-Detail Satin Skirt
Style Notes: Last, but certainly not least by any means, is this lace-trimmed style from Arket. Sitting right at the knee, it features a contrasting panel that lines the hem and sits perfectly at the waist, making it one of the more runway-inspired pieces. This style pairs perfectly with practical wardrobe staples like turtlenecks and snakeprint knee-high boots.
Shop the Skirt:
Style Notes: Small details like an asymmetric scallop hem make this style all the more refined.
Colours: Black
Sizes: UK 34 - 44.
Material: Acetate 100%.
Pros
- A true wardrobe staple that will blend seamlessly with all your other styles.
Cons
- Dry clean only, so it requires more care and attention compared to other styles.
What to Look for When Shopping the Best Satin Skirts?
When it comes to shopping for the best satin skirts, the most important factor to consider is fabric. For the uninitiated, satin isn't actually a specific material, but a kind of weave that creates a glossy effect with high shine on one side and a matte finish on the other. Whilst silk is the most common natural fibre to be used to make satin skirts, you'll often see synthetics like polyester and nylon in the mix, too.
In addition, Seymour notes that there are specific design elements to contemplate, too. "You want a satin with enough weight to drape beautifully rather than cling," she notes. "A true bias cut will always flatter and move with you. And don’t overlook the finishing—waistbands, seams, the way it’s lined. Those details dictate not just how the skirt looks, but how it feels and lasts."
How to Style the Best Satin Skirts?
"Satin skirts are one of those rare pieces that instantly elevate whatever you pair them with. The fluidity, the light, the ease—they do all the work for you," Seymour notes. So, when it comes to styling, she adds that we're shifting toward a direction where satin skirts will become the hero piece of your outfit.
"We’re moving toward more dimensional dressing," she tells me. "Satin skirts will still be the hero, but we’ll see them styled with contrasting textures—crochet, jumpers, shearling, structured cottons—to create more tactile contrasts.
"Colours will shift too; expect brights in S/S 2026 and rich jewel metallic and prints, especially plaid and checks, as we head into A/W 2026 to be introduced with lace detailing. As wardrobes become increasingly modular, satin skirts will slot in as a true “day-to-night” anchor piece, styled in more pragmatic, year-round ways rather than as occasion-only items.
"They transition seamlessly through the seasons, too. Whether you style them with a simple tee or a chunky knit, they always look intentional and refined, which is why they’ve become such a reliable wardrobe constant."
