It's the Year of the Mini, so Here Are 6 Ways to Style the Skirt for Summer
Like it or not, miniskirts are a trend this season. While Miu Miu’s belt-style micro iterations might be slightly (read: completely) terrifying for us mere mortals, they can actually be more wearable than the catwalk leads us all to believe. As a midi-skirt fan, I'm surprised by how swayed I've been by the revival of the mini, and I haven't stopped wearing them all summer. But I find them easier to wear with a baggier top half: a shirt, a fine knit if it's cool out or an oversized blazer. When it comes to fit, I always size up with miniskirts to make sure they're not super tight or rise up too high. (Of course, this comes down to personal preference.)
For late summer outfit inspiration, I've included some of the best miniskirt looks that are easy to copy below. From Abisola's suit to Sylvie's minimalistic take on the trend, here are six ways to embrace the mini.
1. Miniskirt + White Shirt
Style Notes: Minimalist Sylvie knows how to combine wardrobe staples to create an effortless ensemble. A sleek white shirt and mules elevate the otherwise casual denim skirt. I can't wait to re-create this look (and wear it on repeat).
2. Miniskirt + Bandeau Top
Style Notes: Queen of colour Emili knows how to liven up a basic bandeau. Yep, the tube top is back, and this is the perfect combo for warm-weather days.
3. Miniskirt + Matching Blazer
Style Notes: The way to style the suit for summer is by swapping trousers for a mini. Abisola keeps the look smart by adding classic loafers. You could easily throw on a pair of strappy sandals for after dark, too.
4. Miniskirt + Bikini Top + Short-Sleeved Shirt
Style Notes: For holiday, a city break or just a super-sweaty day, reach for your bikini top and pair it with a short-sleeved shirt. When it comes to the skirt, switching to white denim is an easy summer styling tip.
5. Printed Miniskirt + Printed Shirt + Chunky Boots
Style Notes: You can't beat a co-ord. Need further proof? Take a look at Alanna's printed shirt and miniskirt set. A pair of chunky Chelsea boots will take you through to next season, too.
6. Miniskirt + T-Shirt + Trench
Style Notes: UK weather is always unpredictable, so for cooler days, layer a lightweight trench over your tee and skirt. So simple yet so effective.
