This 20-Year-Old Product Is So Iconic That Even Meghan Markle Swears By It
Since its launch in 1999, there's one blush that has been on the cheeks of pretty much every fashion girl and A-lister. From Meghan Markle and Emma Stone to Jennifer Lawrence and Catherine Zeta-Jones, Nars Orgasm Blush has officially reached cult status, with celeb makeup artists swearing by its versatile hue and universal appeal for red carpet events and photo shoots.
Now in its 20th year, this blush's popularity shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, the brand has just launched a whole new collection inspired by the iconic peachy pink hue.
Keep scrolling to find out why Meghan Markle swears by it and what the brand's founder, François Nars, thinks about the product's cult status.
In an interview with Allure, Meghan revealed how much she enjoyed discovering new beauty products while working on Suits. "We've used the same things during the past few seasons on Suits, and it's been great to have access to these really cool products and see what works," she said.
As for her favourite blush? "I love Nars blush in Orgasm. I use it on and off camera because it gives you a nice glow from within."
Launched in 1999, Orgasm was created by founder François Nars to mimic the appearance of naturally flushed cheeks and was formulated to be universally flattering. A bold claim, indeed, but even Margot Robbie's makeup artist, Pati Dubroff, agrees: "It’s a pretty shade for most,” she explained in an interview with Racked. "I can understand why the brand would tout it as being universally flattering.”

When it comes to that cheeky name, François Nars believes that it was "the combination of the name and the shade [that] made it so popular. I actually first created the name, then the shade—I wanted something shocking."
Undoubtedly, ask almost anyone if they've heard of Nars Orgasm and you'll be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn't. But it isn't just a gimmick. The colour of this blush is genuinely amazing. "Orgasm is special because it suits all skin tones," explained Nars. "The pink colour and subtle shimmer give you a natural flush. It’s flattering for so many women."
Since its release, the brand has gone on to release other incarnations of this iconic formula. Liquid blushes and cream sticks in the same cult shade are also now part of the brand's core collection. In fact, Emma Stone's makeup artist Rachel Goodwin revealed that the secret behind Stone's Oscar glow was the Nars Liquid Blush in Orgasm.
With a new four-piece capsule collection inspired by Nars Orgasm launching this week, this cult product's popularity shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, to celebrate its 20th anniversary, the brand is hosting a pop-up in London celebrating all things Orgasm. The O by Nars opens on Friday, 17 May, where the blush will come to life in a totally immersive experience.
"We launched Orgasm in 1999 and I never expected it to be so successful," said Nars. "I
would have to say [it's] the versatility of the colour, the sheerness of the texture and
the name. I want to give products a character and an identity. I want people to remember the names and you can’t forget this one."
