The Throw-On Top Trend Hailey Bieber and Taylor Swift Are Both Backing

Caught up in the maelstrom of Rugby World Cup excitement, it seems we're not the only ones whipping out our rugby shirts in preparation for tonight's Rugby World Cup. And right on cue, two of our favourite celebrities, Hailey Bieber and Taylor Swift, emerged in L.A. and New York respectively on Thursday repping oversized, rugby-style tops.

Though their personal tastes are rather different from each other, both Bieber and Swift styled their shirts in a surprisingly similar way. Combining it with a black miniskirt, Bieber left her oversized jumper untucked for a relaxed silhouette that complemented its casual vibe. She finished her outfit with another major seasonal trend, adding black ballet flats with white socks and dark shades.

For an ultra-preppy, autumn-ready look, Swift wore her oversized Stella McCartney rugby jumper with knee-high leather boots and a tan leather shoulder bag from Tod's. Fashion people in Paris and London have already been getting loads of wear out of their brown knee-high boots—brown is amongst this season's trending, expensive-looking colours for its earthy, natural and universally-flattering palette.

Over the years, we've seen fantastic iterations of the rugby top from the likes of Prada, Louis Vuitton and Burberry, to name but a few. Most recently, Stella McCartney sent two different oversized versions down the runway for A/W 23, whilst A.P.C continued to perfect its casual aesthetic with a layered, striped style. For their undeniably preppy-yet-casual quality, rugby shirts pair well with all kinds of denim. Style with low-slung, baggy jeans or a dark-wash, high-rise pair for a weekend-ready outfit you'll be calling upon all season.
