8 "Boring" Basics You'll Want to Hold on to Forever
While boring style tends to get a bad rap, when it comes to basics, I actually feel that boring is better. Not only do simple pieces tend to pair well with more things and have the ability to work harder for your wardrobe, but they’re also inherently classic and thus better long-term investments. So while you might not want to dress boring, shopping as such can actually be a good idea.
Keeping this little lesson in mind, today I decided to round up the "boring” basics you’ll want to hold on to forever. In other words, if you’re cleaning out your wardrobe (as we’ve been doing a lot of recently), unless there’s irreparable damage to these items or they don’t fit, you probably don’t want to add them to your toss pile. To see, read about, and (of course) shop all eight of the categories that made the cut, just keep scrolling.
1. Button-Downs
Not only is the button-down a timeless staple, but it's also one you can use in every season. Wear one alone, layered under something, or open as a light jacket. Either way, you'll want to use (and hold on to) them forever.

2. Tailored Trousers
As the recent resurgence of all things suiting has shown us, a good pair of trousers will always have a place in your wardrobe.
Shop:
3. Simple Sandals
Basic leather slides are a spring and summer staple that, design-wise, don't change often. Odds are that if you invest in a simple pair, you'll want to wear them year after year.
Shop:
4. Trench Coats
Whether you style it with classic pieces or put a trendy twist on your trench, it's a piece you'll wear and should keep for decades.
Shop:
5. Classic Jewellery
Think watches, chain necklaces, and simple rings in gold and silver. You may take breaks from them over time, but they'll always come back.
Shop:
6. Blazers
A classic blazer is one of the best fashion investments you can make. It adds polish to any outfit and is the perfect contrast to casual or delicate pieces.
Shop:
7. Sweaters
If you take good care of your sweaters and cardigans, they should last for years in your wardrobe without needing to be replaced. They're also sneakily the heroes of countless outfits.
Shop:
8. Loafers
Loafers have definitely made a comeback in recent months, but that doesn't mean the basic styles have changed. That's why, if you have a good pair, you should hold on to it.

Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here atBest Knockoff Luxury Clothing , and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2024, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch Summer House.
