How Parisian Girls Do the 2016 Version of Boho
Boho: it’s back. Again. The trend many of us will perpetually associate with a twenty-something Sienna Miller is seeking to flounce back into our wardrobes, one ruffle at a time.
But as is always the case with fashion, it’s returning with a spin. And in the case of Other Stories, make that spin a Parisian one.

The most boutique-style retailer on the high street has teamed up with model and lifestyle blogger Natalie Suarez of Natalie Off Duty to bring its Rich Bohemian story to life. NYC-based Natalie isn’t a native Parisian (she’s a beguiling mix of Chinese, Spanish and Mexican heritage) but it’s fair to say that she’s the embodiment of a global citizen. And the French connection feels appropriate: the shoot took place on the typically arty “Bobo” streets of the French capital (Bobo is a contraction of bourgeois-bohème: “bohemian bourgeois” in English, a term applied to slightly leftist educated, upwardly mobile Parisians).

The collection resonated with Natalie straight away. “It’s funny because a few pieces really reminded me of some vintage items I have in my wardrobe. Like the little lace dresses, the high necklines and the bold prints.”

A covetable fusion of ruffles and lace, the range is “easy and effortless” Natalie says, whose favourite piece is the classic, button-down shirt with frills. “It’s super chic and sophisticated and I wear it with everything. On the shoot, we really had fun layering and playing with jewellery.”

There’s no denying that said shirt looks striking when teamed over a tonal lace top in the images. “To me, lace is elevated and chic,” explains Natalie. “It’s the perfect layering piece. Under a shirt, under a dress, or vest, it’s super luxurious and immediately adds a unique element to any look.”

The rulebook of Bohemian style is that it should be easy and effortless, a unique canvas that you can manipulate to take you anywhere. Natalie always adds a necklace to take an eclectic look from day to night—“Either a choker or one simple long necklace. It immediately ties together a look,” and suggests “a swipe of burgundy lipstick especially when you're in a hurry!” She also name-checks earrings to immediately make her feel elegant.

Then there’s the lace-up, over-the-knee-high boots from the collection which make a boho injection supremely easy. “They keep you extra warm… especially paired with your favourite party dress for night or oversize sweater for day.” And she’s right—they’re the ultimate meeting of practicality and desirability.

Master free-spirited Natalie’s vibe by remembering the theme of this shoot: “It’s all about taking those free-spirited dresses, boots, and blouses, and elevating it with fine little touches. It could be a beautiful twinkle of your earring. Or a sparkle in your necklace. Rich, luxurious fabrics and statement pieces with a cool, effortless vibe. Like pairing a leather midi skirt with sneakers! Unexpected, but beautiful.”

“Small handbags make me feel a lot more free when I'm out and about… or on the dance floor!” Natalie says.
