Hailey, Dakota and Rosie All Agree—This It Bag Will Continue to Dominate in 2025
When it comes to obsessions, nothing has my heart like handbags. Some people like sports or art, but for me, accessories are an art, and shopping is my sport of choice. This is especially true when it comes to designer handbags. As we approach the new season, I've been thinking about which styles I'd consider to be the most desirable luxury bags right now—the ones that are being seen on the most stylish arms, and have that special Je ne sais quoi that makes them feel truly above and beyond special. One of those bags undoubtedly has to be Bottega Veneta's Andiamo bag. What is the Andiamo, you ask? Well, it is made from the brand's signature Intrecciato woven leather (although recent versions have been created with a smooth leather finish as well) and features a metal hardware knot that holds the bag's versatile straps in place—in many iterations, you can double loop them for a shoulder bag or un-loop for a longer, crossbody style.
Working in fashion for as long as I have, you become somewhat of an expert on certain things. I'm definitely one for predicting long-term handbag icons. You always know when a handbag has hit It-bag status when the coolest celebrities are seen carrying it. The Andiamo has been seen on the likes of Dakota Johnson, Jacob Elordi and many, many more. They (like us) can't seem to get enough of the Italian fashion brand's elegant designs.
Though the Andiamo launched in 2023, it was early last year when it truly came to my attention. I first noticed it on Dakota Johnson—her Andiamo of choice? The large iteration in a wine red hue, which she was often spotted carrying in typical Johnson low-key fashion, with oversized tailored coats and all-black ensembles. Then it was Hailey Bieber last spring in New York City. While Bieber's status as a style icon certainly isn't anything new, her looks over the past year have been better than ever. From simple workout outfits for trips to Gotham Gym to skirt-and-jacket ensembles for errands around Tribeca, everything she's been spotted wearing of late has been perfection. She chose the white Andiamo paired with a baby blue suit which feels just as relevant for this spring as it did last—the sign of a truly great outfit (and accessory).
For classicists out there who prefer neutral hues, Hailey Bieber and Rosie Huntington-Whitely are the blue-print. Huntington-Whitely posted a selfie with her black Andiamo, and it has since been living in my mind rent free. And it's not just black and white that the brand's previous creative director Matthieu Blazy conjured up for us, there's now a multitude of shades, including chocolate brown suede, tan, grey and different delicious tones of beige and taupe. Adding to this, is its different size, style and fabric iterations. There's the obvious like canvas, leather and suede, but there's also denim, too.
For those who are seeking inspiration for something a bit bolder, look no further than Jacob Elordi, who is a firm part of the Bottega Veneta bag fan club. And who can blame him? They are undeniably covetable. A pioneer of the 'men carrying handbags' movement, nobody else seems to do it better or cooler than Elordi. Whilst early last year he was seen with his small black Andiamo, he has since upgraded his collection to include the orange-red soft suede version, tempting even the most loyal neutral-hued lovers.
So, whether you prefer classic colours and variations, or are wanting something a little more adventurous, it's clear that the Andiamo has proven itself to be an It bag with staying power. I expect to see even more of this key piece as we move through 2025, so here is my hit list of favourites.
